Coolest Video Game Worlds

I've been playing Outcast again recently, aside from the dialogue pretty much making zero sense it sure looks pretty. Also the world is huuuge.

Call me crazy but I thought Myst looked nifty.

Outcast was a fantastic game. Loads of atmosphere, and involving gameworld, and a badass and bizarre Voxel game engine. Voxels are the shiznit.

Halo has a pretty memorable game world, especially with looking up and actually seeing the Halo in the skybox. Come to think of it, the skybox is a crucial part in creating a game world with great atmosphere.

Other ones:
DOOM 1+2
Duke Nukem 3D
Chrono Trigger
Zeldas: Ocarina Of Time, Wind Waker, Link to the Past
Mario 64
MDK

That's all I can think of for now.

Well Star Wars Galaxies, Morrowind, GTA3, Vice City, Zelda Wind Waker, MDK2, Halo, Midnight Club 2 and Omikron.

I think True Crime: Streets of LA is going to have the best open gameworld of this year. At least I hope so. The Getaway had a good large environment but it was so frustrating to drive in that you barely noticed it.

Also I think Fable is going to have a really great open landscape to play in.

Return to Zork. East and West Shanbar where some of the most engrossing places that I have ever played in. When I was 10, I LOVED that game.

Bioforge
Morrowind
Crusader: No Remorse/No Regret
Vice City

I like the worlds in Panzer Dragoon but particularly in the recent one.

I always enjoyed Black and White

Let's see what else: The N64 and Cube Zeldas, Halo, Resident Evil (in a goofy sort of way), Shenmue, Half-Life, GTAIII(Vice City is cool but it's so goddamn 80s it can get nauseating, which is probably the point) and the mushroom induced trip that is the Mario series.

Undying.
Wasteland.
Giants: Citizen Kabuto.

The Mechwarrior series.
Arcanum.
The Wheel of Time.

The Mechwarrior series.
So, so true. One of the best realized game worlds I have played.

I'll have to echo Jacob's Fallout/Baldur's Gate sentiments. Not only that, but I think Deus Ex was extremely memorable in this sense. Very atmospheric and cool to exist in.

Not only that....but fucking Half-Life. Although you were inside most of the time....it was still cool as all hell.

One of the only things Star Fox Adventures had was a very, very cool world.

Let's See:

I'm going to kick it old school first and say:

Zork 1, 2, & 3 captivated me
Ultima (early series, outside of 9. plus thank god for a new one upcoming!)
Uunkuulia, by Adventions. Which no one will know.

And new school:
NWN
Alice (Amazing world....I really only wanted to finish to see new stuff)

Damn straight!

Half Life- even though the whole game mostly was indoors, as someone said before, once you got outside the building in the "Surface Tension" mission, it got a whole lot more exciting.
