Manhunt, a.k.a. "The Running Man 2K3" - Page 2

Well, I beat the thing on Fetish. The ending is okay... nothing astonding. Overall, it's been a good experiance. It's taken me a long ass time to beat... it's definately one of the hardest games I've ever played. I'll play it again on Hardcore eventually. A-class game, but I'd give it an 8 out of ten.

Okay, I'm going to Pro/Con this thing.

PRO:

-It's challenging. There is never a point in the game that feels frustrating. Every goal in the game CAN be met... and you know it while you're playing it, but the difficulty of those goals is insanely high.

-It's scary. Not in that Silent Hill creepy kind of way... but the game throws so many surprises at you that you will jump out of your seat. I played through a lot of the game standing up.

-It has good replay value. You can go through the levels a variety of ways (but it's still linear... more on that in the cons) and the levels are all fun, so there's a lot of reason to keep this game around even after you've beaten it.

-Brian Cox. No more info is needed on that.

-There's a lot of levels. Tons of them. Many times it doesn't feel like the game will ever end. The levels are, for the most part, very well designed.

-The AI is fucking amazing. These are some of the smartest game characters I've ever seen. Also, the personalities of the gang thugs if hilarious. Listening to the things they say is fun.

-The stealth is fun, but the gun battles are SERIOUS fun. I'm usually the stealthy player... but I was loving using the firepower in this game.

-The control is great. Good camera. No real complaints there.

Okay, the Cons:

-While I love the levels, I was really hoping this game would be less linear. This is a weird complaint, as I love how the game feels like someone is controlling you... that's great. But still... I wish there were more ways to go about several levels. One early level in a junkyard I just didn't like at all. Way too linear and way too uninteresting.

-The game loses some steam about half way through. When you get into the real world and have to deal with cops and then Director's personal guard, the game loses some of that personality I talked about. You start off with these great gangs who are funny to be around who have tons of personality. Then, when you get to the real world, the characters become boring.

-The first third of the game can get tedious. I'd say when you're about 40% through the game, things get old fast. The pace quickens up around 50 or 60 % through, but still.

-The stealth kills, oh so hyped before the game came out, are boring. In fact, on several weapons, the tame kill is more cool than the gruesome kill. Basically, the stealth kill thing feels like a gimmick at times and can get pretty old.

-There is a point on the last few levels where I got REAL bored of stealth. I just said "fuck it" and went into every room blasting away. Don't get me wrong, the stealth in this game is great, but it can get old.

-They had more opportunities here. The missions where the Director sets you up with objectives are really, insanely fun... I wish there were more of them. The real world with the cops... bored me.

-While the control is good, I kept wanting to crouch and jump. Crouching would have come in very handy dozens of times. I wish you could do that.

-The reporter character bored me.

-The bonus stuff you earn, like most game bonus stuff, is none too interesting.

-The ending is kind of under whelming.

...

Well, that's the end of that. Great game... it gets the Cheese Biscuits seal of approval.

Heheh yah, I love using a sawn-off at close range. I explain that to people who haven't played the game, and they are immediately different around me. Dunno why...

Well I finished the game last night. The chainsaw is soooo cool. Too bad you only get to kill maybe 7 or 8 guards then Starkweather.

I had 57/100 stars on Fetish.

Now it's time for Hardcore and 100 stars.

Cheese Biscuits manages to sum up his thoughts on the game without spoilers.

Decisions Movie goes for the less subtle approach.....that's if I read it right, which I probably did.

Thanks, fuckspace, for ruining it.

Just the ending, that's all.

The ending??

If I said what happens to Starkweather, then yeah I can see that as a spoiler. But I didn't. I just commented on the guards and then meeting Starkweather. Which anyone who is playing the game knows that is where you are heading towards the end of the game.

The way you said it, it sounded like you have to kill 7 or 8 guards before you kill Starkweather.

Unless I totally misinterpreted it. If so, I apologize.

You got it right, Verbal, but that's hardly a spoiler.

Gave this a rent a couple days ago. Fun game. Not sure if i'd buy it though, as I got through most of it already. I'm going through it again hardcore, and it's a lot more challenging without the radar. Some of those kills are pretty gruesome- gotta love it.

Just wait till you get the chainsaw...

Oh, and if you haven't, check out the Vailiant site...heh. http://www.valiant-ent.tv

The forums are great.

SPOILERS PEOPLE:

Okay, just start off running. Run back to the area you came from (where you fought and killed Pigsey) and make noise on the way there so they follow. Get one of them alone (make sure you have the chainsaw off... it makes a shit-load of noise) then stealth kill. The chainsaw is a stealth weapon, but a red one, so watch yourself. Slowly pick off the gaurds one at a time. It's easy as pie.

Tomorrow i'll finally be able to continue playing this, since i'm buying it AND the headset. Oh, yeah...gonna be a fun weekend.

No one seems to be posting on this game anymore. But I'll say this:

Anyone have 100 stars yet?? I'm at 96 stars right now. Just need to get 5 stars on level 19 and level 20.

Plus, does anyone here know about the God Code?? It can only be used after you finish the game.

I got this for X-Mas, I really like it. Right now I'm on that level a little past the zoo, where you have to save those people, and if you get spotted, they waste the people. It's my dream game, I love severing someone's head "chechen rebel" style. Plus, I SWEAR I heard a hunter in the White Trash mission whistling Huey Lewis' "I want a new drug". That was cool.

I showed this to some friends of mine. It seriously freaked them out. They were even questioning my sanity for enjoying this game. Eh... fuck 'em if they don't like good gameplay and dark atmospheres.

They should have this quote on the cover on 'Manhunt 2'!! That is if they make one. This would quiet all those babies who can't handle this awesome game.

I don't know how many of you philistines are playing this without a headset, but let me tell you that accidentally coughing, alerting three guys to your position, clubbing them all to death one at a time from behind, and having Brian Cox congratulate you on "some of the best snuff he's ever seen" in your ear is gaming par excellence.

Dammit, I'm stuck right now on that "Wrong side of the tracks" mission. Just trying to kill all those SWAT dudes, but they always surround me. Just a matter of time though before I kill them all. Bastards. Awesome game though- I'm really enjoying all the occasional Vice City references I see in the game.

Playing with a headset really takes this game to another level of creepy. Brain Cox invading your ear is insane.
Pretty cool. Damn violent, but not quite as fucked up at times as I expected it to be, and very fucked at others. Like that second level kill with the scythe...Jesus, my balls are hurting right now. The headset was golden for this game. I want to see more games incorporate this groovy feature. It was just a 5 day rental, so I haven't beaten it yet, but I got to the part where I had to drag the reporter around. I give it a solid 8. And more Brian Cox incorporated into games.
