Sony secured rights to the Grand Theft Auto franchise until 2004 so yeah, it's coming to PS2 first and possibly last (unless they want to give PC gamers it as well).

Heh heh. I wish. We'll probably get one free "boxed" copy at work, and whoever is the strongest gets to take it home. There are many games I'm glad I don't have to pay for, but this is one I'm happy to dent the wallet to play.

I'll be at the European Computer Trade Show (ECTS - sort of like E3 but with better dress sense wink ) next week, and I'm hoping there'll be some more on this there.

(pleasepleasepleaselettherebeaplayableversionofvic ecity)

Look out for a big show report on the main site, either way.

Hee hee, and I hear Sony's putting a huge backing with ECTS 2002 too - so maybe will be seeing "Project X" from Criterion/Sony.

Yeah, for the first time ever, the great stinking unwashed public will be allowed in to a concurrent event next door called "The PlayStation Experience", forcing the members of the gaming press to actually meet and interact with their readers. Scary.

Sadly, it's this Sony-centric consumer dick-waving that's left Nintendo and Microsoft both pretty much walking away from the event completely. Still, should be plenty of good stuff to get "hands on" with all the same.

also a huge article on this game in PSM Magazine (which they've kindly been sending me free for months now, for some reason). i can't believe it's only a couple months away from release. they must've started working on it the second they finished GTA3, if not concurrently. either that or they had stuff done for GTA3 and cut it to use in the new game. either way, it looks awesome and damn close to completion. i know i already pre-ordered my copy...

well, they pretty much had the game mechanics done for GTA3, methinks. Vice City uses a modified update of the Renderware engine they used for GTA3, so that part was out of the way already. Also, I read that the team only learned some of the more complex stuff of that engine in the final months of GTA3, which were therefore only used in part on that game... but, yeah, I have to say that for a game which has had a development cycle of probably not much more than a year, it looks incredible...

My God....this is going to be the sweetest game ever.

Those screen caps look positively mouthwatering. Not sure if they're PS2 though, look pretty hi def...

I thought that too, but apparently the PS2 version is the only one in development at the moment. The PC version will be ported from that. Could just be that they're really pushing the envelope on this one.

And I too love the fact that it's only a month or so away. Nothing worse than being tempted with screenshots and movies, only to end up waiting years for the actual game. Do you hear me, Duke Nukem?

If there's any game to buy one for, it's this game. If you've got the money, go on out and pick it up...you won't regret it.

I'm in college, so sadly I shall have to wait.

My roomie is bringing a PS1 though. Maybe we can find a naive child with a PS2 and make an evil deal. Mwahahahaha.

I've managed to see almost half of the movie. It's looking amazing, but the downloading moves slower than a block of cheddar through my grandpa's colon.

Too bad the Rockstar site is getting heavy traffic, I still haven't seen that movie.....

Ign has movies on the site now. But for some reason on the main page is says they are locked but when you go to the PS2 page it doesnt have them locked. There about 5 movies in all on the site.
