Just got my copy, will check back when I get to work in a couple hours and fill anyone who is interested in.
Where did you get it? And did you reserve it?

I wanna get it from Circuit City because you get a free guide, but it might not be there today and I want it NOW.
Actually, I just called Circuit City and they've got it in stock....cool.

Got mine at EB, and yeah I did reserve, you never know with Nintendo products how many they are going to bother shipping. The game is fun as hell by the way, I had about an hour and a half of game time this afternoon, most of that was spent just screwing around, wall jumping then kicking on the water jets and flying around, it is just fun and I don't think it could possibly control any better than it does. If you have a Cube, get this. Now bitch.
Just came back, as of 1:30 pm I was the SECOND PERSON who got it at Circuit City. Got the deal with the Prima Strategy Guide for free.

Thing should be flying off the shelves, the display was completely full.....

Let me know what you think when you put some time in Verbal, as Mario deserves way more love than than the CHUD is dishing out.
Best game of the year so far. Fun as hell. Addictive as hell. I've got 7 shines already with 120 left. The game is so deep it's not funny. Tons upon tons of things to do on each EPISODE. There are 8 levels and 7 episodes on each level. I'm gonna be playing this thing for a LONG time.

If you've got a Gamecube you should have this, simple as that.

Note: don't listen to Gamespot, they're idiots. They complain about the camera so much but it's hardly frustrating except for when you get caught behind walls- but that shouldn't ruin the game for you. All their gripes are technical. They are mostly nitpicking. If you were gonna go by their review, don't. Read Gamespy's.
Bestbuy has a deal where if you purchase a Gamecube and Mario Sunshine you get a 25 dollar gift certificate. So technically you can get the game for half off just for purchasing a Gamecube along with it.
Boy am I glad I haven't gotten mah Gamecube yet. Only problem is they aren't supposed to get the game in until tomarrow or Thuresday.
Speaking as Gamespot still gave it a good review (8.0/10) - I don't think it really matters.

I had just gotten my third shine when I had to head back to work, will try and catch up with you tonight. GS was pretty fuckin harsh, they gave it a decent score but ripped the game up in the review a bit heavily. The camera does have some problems, but if there is a console 3D platformer out there with a perfect camera system I haven't played it yet.
Good point.

But it's not enough for Jeff Gerstmann of GS that it's got amazing graphics and incredible depth.

You can tell someone doesn't like a game too much when they can't look past a few minor shortcomings....

Me? I wanted to love this game badly, so a camera isn't gonna get in my way of declaring it everything I hoped it would be.

Verbs, aren't you saying that you were predisposed to loving it so your opinion of the game is more unbiased and unreliable than Gamespot's?
Well, whatever you do, don't go on IGN's free board. Lot's of the GCN fans there are pissed at the score...for what reason, I don't know.
No, i'm saying i'm above nitpicking and something as trivial as the camera (which is just FINE) isn't gonna let it ruin the game for me. It was never going to ruin the game for me, how did I know that?

I've played countless games where reviewers have cited camera problems and I always shrugged them off once I played the game.
I'm up to seven shines right now. I'm having an absolute blast. This is literally the best 3D platformer ever. The water pack is cool, Mario has tons of moves, and the game is hard.. That's right, I'm being challenged by this game, and I love it. This is not a game I'm going to breeze through, and get bored with in a week. I had to fight hard for the Shines I have. 120? I'll be at this for awhile. I can't think of any recent games that I've played where challenging level design was one of the features. Great game, and a definite system seller.

BTW, Super Monkey Ball 2 is also great fun. IF you liked the first, the second is pure digital
crack. Some of the levels are insane. Good fun though, and the mini-games make it all worth while.

I picked up both but so far have only played Super Monkey Ball 2 and you're right it is more of the same but on steroids. Great fun.
This is easily the best platformer ever, maybe even one of the best games ever.

I've got 28 or 29 shines right now and I haven't even scratched the surface. Just got access to Yoshi. Mecha-Bowser was one amazing boss-fight.

So far, this thing is so much fun. I got up at 8:30 and have been playing since...

The bonus levels are hard but really fun...just wait until you do the flying sand bird one.

This is certainly a Mario game, fun as hell, but you also want to scratch your eyes out with a wire brush at times.

This is just a kick ass platform game, there is nothing else that can touch it in the genre.
Ditto on the scratching your eyes out. It's FRUSTRATING AS HELL! I've got like 43 shines now, but it's definitely NOT easy. It just took me like 10 tries on this one thing....
And so far i've cleared out every zone except like, 3. But i've still got tons and tons and tons to do. This is a massive game.

Wait till you get to the amusement park, though..them's some nice graphics.

You playing straight through every level Verbal, or are you jumping to the new places when they open?
I was doing them all simultaneously. I've done the main objective in every level except the watermelon one on the beach, and the majority of that village (forget the name) where you have to rescue the mayor or something.

How does it compare to Super Mario 64?

I've played Super Mario 1, 2, 3 - I own the 64 version and I think that they're all great games!
The reason I say better is because....look...the gameplay mechanics aren't too different from Mario 64. The setup is the same in how you go from level to level. In many ways it's like Super Mario 64 2. Except this time he's got a water pump.

In how they expanded on EVERYTHING that made Mario 64 such a great game is the reason I say it's better.

Was Super Mario 64 the first true free moving 3D home video game?

Yeah, pretty much...

And otis, I can't tell you how many times i've restarted levels. It's so frustrating sometimes. You lose your footing on one of the "special" levels and it pisses you the hell off when you die.

Yup, and the more pissed I get the worse I do.

KINDA SPOILER
Have you done the sand bird coin collection yet? I don't think I died once but that level was nerve racking as hell. After I had the 7 coins off the birds back it had dipped just low enough that I couldn't jump to the middle pillar, I had to take the whole ride down and back up again.
Yeah, I did that. It definitely was nerve-racking....I died a few times on it. The problem I was having was readjusting Mario's footing as it made the first turn.

I've got 53 stars now, but I just now discovered how to enter Noki Bay so i'm working on that. I've got a few episodes from the other levels to finish too.
Actually, talk about miscounting- i've got 59 now.....

As of this morning I think I'm around 40, give or take a couple. Would be farther but I had to stop playing for a while last night, just got to frustrated. One of the Mario Challenges in the second main area is driving me nuts, I can't even try it more than once or twice without getting pissed. There are these long square logs that have colored pegs on them that spin around, the first section is easy and the second part is evil.
I played this on the display station at my local Toys R Us while my son watched in wide-eyed amazement. Of course he's 2 1/2, so he's amazed easily, but still. It was a lot of fun, and I hardly ever get to play games (I am sans platform ).

Now back to my MAME Mario Brothers...
I've got 63 now, and if you thought puzzles were hard already....

I found a special warp zone with Yoshi. You know the boats that travel around the island? You've gotta get Yoshi and hop from one boat to the other and you'll finally get to an island with a pipe. The pipe has that orange stuff on it and of course Yoshi sprays it and you can go through.

Well, it's a special "8 Red Coins" puzzle where you've got ONE CHANCE to collect all 8 while pushing yourself on a lily pad. If you don't get all of them the first time through.....too bad. You've gotta take the exit at the other end which transports you all the way back to the beginning of Delfino Plaza.

That's the hardest thing so far...it's gotta be. I swear, it's gonna take a LONG TIME to get 120 shines.

Forgive my ignorance, I've been busy for sometime and haven't had much time to look at the new 64 games. - There's a sequel to Super Mario 64?
No, they didn't make a sequel but I was just saying that this might as well be a sequel since it's so similar in make-up and style and gameplay mechanics...except he's got a pump.

I saw a quick glimpse of him on TV he was wearing somekind of backpack - right on, more power for Mario! - Don't you find strange that they never did make a sequel for the 64?
Yeah, the whole object of the game is to clean up the island he's vacationing on because an impostor disguised as him did it and got him into trouble so to get off the hook with the police that's his community service. The game is FAR much more than that, though.

And I guess it's not too odd that they never made a sequel because these games take awhile to make and plus N64 died real quick.

I've heard somewhere that a console's life is about six years on average, I was just waiting for a Super Mario 64 sequel - that never came, and I remember being impressed on the advancement the 64 games had over the others. - The other game I own is Star Wars - Shadows of the Empire.
75 shines now, and my eyes hurt. It's gonna be a rough battle to 120.

Note: if you don't wanna finish the game WITHOUT 120 stars, don't complete all of Corona Mountain. It opens up after you've defeated all 7 impostor Marios when you have to chase after him in each level. You can go all the way through to the boss but if you beat him the game will end. Until then just get all the blue coins in the level and then exit, that's what I did.

But I WILL have 120 before I beat the game....
82 shines now...

Know what sucks for all you who hated the moving platform levels?..you've got to get 8 red coins in them for extra shines in each episode!
Damn Verbs, I feel like I don't even need to bother playing this now.

Verbs, since you have a guide there are two areas I can't do anything with. From the main area, there is an island that I need a Yoshi on but can't get to, and from the main area where the boats pass through there is a bridge that I can shoot into from underneath and I get to an area with sand that if a make any move I fall back to the begining, any advice?

Smoke and mirrors, my friend....i'm damn mysterious.

Ok Otis, let me see if I remember right.

You know the boat that briefly stops in the harbor, the docks where you can access Noki Bay? Where the light is coming up out of the ground? Well, hop onto that boat with Yoshi as it stops at the dock. It will take you to the island with the lady and her fruit basket. Jump off and onto that island. Then, wait for the other boat to come, and jump onto that one. It will then come up to this structure jutting out of the ocean that has bananas on top of it. Jump onto it. Then, wait for the NEXT boat and jump onto that and that takes you to the island with the pipe.

Hope that helps....

Groovy, thanks Verbs, what about that bridge area?
Yeah i'm not too sure about that....i'll have to see if the guide mentions anything, i'll get back to you later on.
