Dead to Rights

Holy DAMNS is this game fun.

I was up until 2AM last night enjoying this gift.

It's like a fusion of Max Payne and Grand Theft Auto 3.

Violence, death, bullettime, strippers, human shields, neck-snapping disarming moves and jail fighting sequences, with a cool action movie score pounding away the whole while.

Definitely the best action game I've played in eons.

Still...don't expect perfection. The camera is VERY tricky to deal with especially in tight spaces and even moreso when you're in tight spaces doing hand-to-hand fighting.

Also, the jail sequence - while fun - kind of comes way too early in the game. It's like you really just get begin to get the hang of the slo-mo gun battles, and then they take the guns away for a bit.

But it's just room for improvement for the sequel. In the meantime, I LOVE this game.

Cool, I was curious about this game. Reviews have been mixed, with just about every critic citing the same camera problems, which usually don't bother me all that much. Sometimes I wonder what sort of magical camera system these folks expect games to have. They never mention a game in the same vein that has the kind of perfect viewing system they prefer.

I could use some good old fashioned guns-a-blazin' type action, after the glut of rpg's this summer. Thanks for the heads up Micah!

No, more or less just like Max Payne, it is fun, but it is no GTA.

I see a LOT of GTA3 elements here.

- The darkly humorous tone and overdone mob voice acting.
- The frequent side missions.
- The violence.
- The hand-to-hand fighting engine.

Obviously, this is a more platform-y action title than the open-ended non-linear GTA3, but they do have significant similarities.

But yes...GTA3 is much better. What game is it NOT much better than?

I know, just making sure the sewer folk didn't buy expecting something else.

Is this one of those X-box exclusive titles?

Yeah for a while, I think it is coming to PS2 in the next six months though.

Ouch...I just couldn't get into this one...I posted a thread earlier about it...I picked it up last week...I loved the concept but just couldn't get down with the controls...weren't as intuitive as Max Payne...and the difficulty factor is through the roof. Unless you're a glutton for punishment. :-)

I took it back today and picked up SOCOM.

For those who have BEATEN Max Payne and played this.....does it even compare?

I'll rent it and all, but I can't imagine it coming close to the masterpiece that I thought Max Payne was....but does it?

I...personally...didn't think it was as fun as Max Payne. I still have that one on X-Box and have played through it at least 3 times. Dead To Rights left me with more frustration than fun. I'm a hard core action gamer....and the difficulty on this game had me tossing my controller on the floor. The should have implemented that Max Payne style learning difficulty...where it gets more difficult as you get better. Instead this one is pretty brutal by the 3rd area.

Just keep moving and then when you stop, immediately lean into beating the yholy hell out of whoever is following you.

You'll whittle down the first group of guys, and then you'll eventually do it with the second group.

No big science here...just keep at it...it's a HARD game.

Yeah...for about 6 months, than the PS2 and GC ones are coming. Funny thing is - this was once a PS2 game first.

This has got to be one of the hardest games I've ever played, at least that didn't have an adjustable difficulty setting. The massage parlour was murder.

Or maybe I just suck. But at least all my friends suck worse, so I'm still the best player in my circle...
