Interested to know how this game progresses. I played the demo but was not impressed. Of course I was only running around with a club and the combat was on par with an RPG.

Just played the first three levels, it is on par with the first Turok, if you liked that you will love this.

I dug the hell out of the first two 'Turok' games, never played part 3, but I'm dying for this one.

I picked this up for X-Box from Blockbuster on my gamer's pass. The first level was extremely boring....but thing's picked up when I got to a level flying on a Pteradactly (sp?)....after that it was back to the ground..but the action has gotten good with these bipedal dino type enemies...the enemy A.I. is brutal...they are really smart...they take cover...and attack in groups...it's a tough game....with X-Box I was hoping for a save anywhere option...but you must complete a level and it auto saves...I think that's what makes it so brutal. There are some great codes out depending on how hard you wanna cheat.

Since it's a rental I'm playing it with unlimited ammo and all weapons...and it's still brutal. I never touch the invincibility codes...although one is out there. Very much like the first Turok though....which is good...graphics are nice and when you get the sniper gun....it's nice to take enemies heads off from a distance.

Probably give it a rent but Acclaim's recent marketing ideas are really horrendous. They're giving ten-thousand pounds to any parent in England who can have a baby on Sept. 1 and name it Turok.

Anyway, it looks like the PS2 version got skimped as from these impressions:

Quote:
A locally based videogame store where I live got Turok in for PS2 on Thursday (I saw the Xbox version on the counter, too) and I picked it up before a manager could tell the college kid they were supposed to hold it until Sunday.

I'm mixed on whether this is a blessing - the game just feels bland and boring. Granted, I haven't gotten to the flying missions (I'm only four mini-areas in - the game autosaves when you've reached an easily reachable checkpoint).

The weapons don't impress me. The enemies are dumb as bricks - when they're shot at a distance they stand there until you finish them off.

The "lush" enviroments are mostly collections of flat graphics that look mediocre from a distance and just plain bad up close. Please note - I'm only a little bit in, but I'm returning this pretty quick. I should have rented it. There is more junk on the screen than Halo - including animals and insects that buzz around while you play - but overall the look isn't great.

Control wise it's the standard Halo layout - but jumping and aiming felt awkward and there was no "scope" option on the weapons I tried (bows, tekbow, rocket launcher, plasma cannon, pistol, etc.).

The saving grace of some FPS is the multiplayer - but this game has no bots I know of (there was no option for it). You're better off buying an N64 with Rage Wars and the second Turok than this.

You get the feeling the designers got 30 to 40 percent in and the producers told them: "Okay, that's enough - get the game ported to the other consoles and wrap it up in oooh, two months."

I'm being harsh - but I played Red Faction (which, to be honest, Turok does look a little better than - but it's been over year since that) and after 15 minutes couldn't put it and it's multiplayer down.

I'd give it a 5.5/10 - as a knee-jerk reaction - I"ll let you know if I feel like digging further...
Of course, I'm guessing that the Xbox version seemingly got a little bit more development time.

Yeah, I had a good long bash at this at ECTS. It's OK, but it doesn't seem to have moved on much from the N64 days. I also found that the foliage scenery tended to obscure important areas, meaning you can wander around for ages trying to figure out where to go - and then you look at a bush from a certain angle and there it is.

There are far, far better FPS coming up on all the consoles than this.

I also found it amusing that when trying to kill a big dino with the club, it actually looks like you're painting them to death.

But that may just be me...

This game is brutal, and there are some serious bugs, feels rushed. You have to kill a T-rex in the 3rd chapter, it is neat how the level plays out but sometimes it takes five hits to kill it and somtimes ten and over. I also fell down a mountain, walked for thirty seconds and had the falling death animation play and I was dead. I acknowledge I should have died, but not half a minute after the fall.

It's actually far worse than that...

The UK's first human adverts are unveiled Marketing pioneers change their identities in new advertising initiative

Five people who have changed their names by deed poll to that of a character in a video game in a unique marketing initiative have been revealed today. The five, comprising men and women, have all changed their identities to Turok, the hero character of a new game Turok Evolution being released by Acclaim Entertainment for PlayStation 2, Microsoft Xbox and Nintendo GameCube on September 6th.

The new Turoks have completed the legal formalities and instead of being known as Ross Davison, Paul Frederick Codling, Matthew Grist, Andrew Ian Boughflower and Lheila Rebeccah Oberman, will simply be called Turok. Everything from their passports to their telephone bills will now carry their new identities.

The idea behind Identity Marketing, which emanates from Dr Simeon Cantrell of the Institute of Science in Marketing, is that in the same way as a company might buy a television commercial, a billboard poster or a radio spot, they can now buy human identities. Acclaim UK has been the first company to embark on this cutting edge marketing route.

Proving the fact that Dr Cantrell believes that this type of marketing will become commonplace within the next 5 years, over 10,000 people applied to change their names to Turok through the website set up by Acclaim at www.mynameisturok.com.

Shaun White, Acclaim's UK Communications Manager said: "The five Turoks will no doubt speak to and meet tens of thousands of people between them over the next year and will be walking talking adverts for the Turok video game. We think this type of advertising is sure to take off and will prove to be a big hit for both Acclaim UK and Turok Evolution."

The five pioneers of Identity Marketing are each being paid £500 and will receive an Xbox and copies of the new Turok game for their troubles. They are free to change their names back to their original names after one year if they wish to.
So they have to be called Turok for at least a year, and all they get is £500 and a free Xbox? I thought there were laws against taking advantage of the mentally ill?

If it were more money and gifts, I'd do it.

Free stuff is cool, and I make my wife call me Turok anyway.

Finally got a full PS2 copy of this to see if my less-than-stellar first impressions were accurate.

They weren't.

It's actually a lot worse than it first seemed. Truly nasty graphical glitches are everywhere. You can knock a tree over with an arrow, forming what looks like a bridge - except you just walk right through it in a mess of polygons and textures. Wander off the path into the "bush" and the screen is filled with ugly green pixels and all sense of direction is lost. The play area is crudely fenced in with big flat barriers painted to look like foliage, and the levels themselves are horribly designed - confusing and illogical, with no map and mission objectives buried in the most nonsensical of places.

You could be generous and say that it's OK really, and that there are worse games out there. There are, it's true. There are also far, far better games out there. Wait for TimeSplitters 2, or buy Halo, or - on the PC - NoOne Lives Forever 2. All of those are far more deserving of your cash than this wasted opportunity.

Played it this weekend, and I have to say it's a MAJOR disapointment. It looks and feels just like the first two games, no improvments that I could see, and the controls were ass. No reason this should be on the PS2 or Gamecube, the graphics are N64 worthy-no better.

I got this game for my xbox and I'm quite dissapointed. I mean what the fuck were they smoking when they decided to not put online support or even just bots for multiplayer!! In my opinion it's not even that fun. The gore gets old quite fast and the shoddy A.I. makes for a not that fun game. I highly recommend renting this one first before buying!!
