My new obsession....

It's the new miniatures game from the people who brought us Mage Knight. Basically, you buy a starter set with 8 pre-painted plastic figures, each mounted to a base that has all that figure's statistics printed on it.
<img src="http://www.wizkidsgames.com/images/figures/rotating/HMIC_070_rot01.jpg" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.wizkidsgames.com/images/figures/rotating/HMIC_073_rot01.jpg" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.wizkidsgames.com/images/figures/rotating/HMIC_052_rot01.jpg" alt="" />
The base rotates, so as the figure takes damage and it's stats decrease, you simply "click" (turn) the base until the new stats appear. Once "KO" appears on the base, the figure is out of the game. There are four figure booster packs you can buy, and most figures have three versions -- rookie, experienced, and veteran -- that reflect different phases of that character's career. For example, the yellow Magneto belongs to the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants faction (factions give like characters certain bonuses), but the blue one belongs to the X-Men faction to reflect the time he was leader of the time. There are other cool bits as well -- the Hulk figure gets stronger the more damage he takes, Capt. America gains the Toughness ability when he's about to be KOed, things like that. We played my first game tonight and it was a blast -- my Sabertooth scored a critical hit on Wolverine with his first attack, and my Juggernaut held off Hercules, Black Panther, and Capt. America while my teammate's Ultron blasted everything in sight. Great fun.

Yeah I'm into this too. But so far just as a collector of them. Kinda like Marvel M.U.S.C.L.E. only painted.

Picked up two booster sets. Got Jean Grey, Rogue, Quasar, Puppet Master, Annihilus, a couple of SHIELD mecs with big honking machine guns...

...and Hoggoblin. Which is without a doubt the coolest miniature I've ever seen.

Might pick up some Mage Knight ones for spice.

Can't wait for the DC set coming in September...

Yeah, apparently the DC set will not be directly compatible with the Marvel one, but it shouldn't take a rocket scientist to figure out how to do some crossover action.

There's also supposed to be an Image set coming later this year.

Goddammit, I'm interested. What are they like in terms of price? Is there an official site?

For the official website:

<a href="http://www.wizkidsgames.com/heroclix/marvel/" target="_blank">http://www.wizkidsgames.com/heroclix/marvel/</a>

For the official on-line store:

<a href="http://ssl3.adhost.com/store.wizkidsgames/merchant.cfm" target="_blank">http://ssl3.adhost.com/store.wizkidsgames/merchant.cfm</a>

4 Figure Booster is $6.95

8 Figure Starter Kit w/ map, rules, and dice is $19.95

And in June they'll release the Marvel Heroclix Premier Edition for $29.95 which in addition to the game stuff comes with fixed minis of Spider-Man, Wolverine, Elektra, Wolfsbane, Wasp, Hobgoblin, Sabretooth, Boomerang, Scarlet Witch, and Kingpin.

Also in June is a 6 5/8” tall Sentinel figure for $15.95.

$14.95 prop expansion add-ons (soda machines, dumpsters, lightpole, etc.) are coming in August.

And the DC version of the game streets in September.

And knowing is half the battle...

There's already a booming market for individual figures -- I've seen sites selling Veteran figures for up to $5.00 each, and the Unique black-costumed Spidey is going for $40.00.

Aside from online, where can I pick these up? Went to Toy R' Us today and didn't see em.

You won't find them outside of game stores -- apparently that's part of the arrangement between WizKids and Marvel.

I actually found a starter pack today and bought it - they were fresh outta booster packs.

Here's what I got (not as lucky as Django, I guess):

Blade
Puppet Master
Pyro
Elektra
Sabretooth
Ultron (broken)
Vulture

and the star atop my Marvel X-mas tree:

S.H.I.E.L.D. Medic

Hey, in the game, the medics can be life savers. I had one tagging behind Magneto, healing him to whole game and forcing my opponent to have almost all his characters gang up on him to take him out.

And that of course was when I had Juggernaut wade in and just destroy everbody.

Hey, the Elektra I got is unique. Whaddya know.

Damn you guys. I've been trying to resist. That just went out the freakin door. Wel what do ya know. Today's Wednesday. We'll see.

I picked up a starte kit and a booster pack.

I got
Klaw
Sabertooth
Hobgoblin
Ultron
Shield Agent
Shield Medic
Hydra Medic
Bullseye
Elektra
Magneto
Spider-Man
Whirlwind

I'm sorta disappointed with who isn't included in the first set. Specifically the Fantastic Four, Thor and Iron Man. No uniques.

I got the Spider-Man and the Professor X unique pieces. Maybe those pieces aren't so unique after all...
I actually purchased some more boosters Friday afternoon and got the unique Cyclops and Thanos.

For any who are interested, the new issue of Toy Fare magazine has an exclusive offer for a Berserker Wolverine, He is in the brown/tan late Byrne/Cockrum costume and has special move and attack abilities. The cost is 5.00. Not bad for a Toy Fare exclusive.
