I need a DnD plot

I am looking to start an adventure, and need some ideas for a plot thread. I know this is broad, but I need something to get the story going.

1. A village is in shambles, being attacked by small dragons. What the heroes/players have to figure out is, the villagers captured the dragon pup's ailing mother, and are keeping the large beast hidden, collecting her scales/teeth or possibly as an omen to worship.

2. Trolls have nurtured and cared for two lost children, but their abusive parents want the kids back safe and sound, and want the trolls slain. A good ethical crisis. The heroes must rescue the kids or face the town's wrath.

3. A curse has made town's population go mute. The answer lie in the twisting stone labyrinth in the valley beyond, and the enchanter that stole their voices. The wizard listens to the echoes, each in a bottle, to keep himself company.

You know, shit like that.

Thanks for the ideas. I really like the troll start. Any other good ethical ideas floatin around?

The standard "Three Amigos" dilemma... keep the money, or be paid that "justice has been done"?

Sacrificing a friend or an innocent to save many lives. Make them pick, even literally giving them a fork in the road.

One of the heroes is dying from poison, the antidote would kill a tree that has lived for 1,000 years.

They are given artifacts of tremendous power... too powerful for player characters, but they age at the rate of one year per day while they use it.

Shit like that...

The bad guys have won.

Thank you, that is all.

In our current adventure, our DM is going to have the bad guys win. He has been concockting this grandious battle that will kill everyone in the group and force us to make brand new characters. Which doesn't bother me too much, but I've had my character for over 2 years now. I know that they're on paper, but you kind of grow attached to them.

Well that kinda really sucks...

1)Yuan-ti (snake people) have invade a small temple in town and are slowly replacing/sacrificing people to their snake god.

2)A very old ruin with unknown carvings has resurfaced after the gods got angry and the earth shook.

3)A wizards needs a few adventurers to go into the nearby marshes to fetch a rare poisonous black snake eggs.

4)A strange castle has mysteriously appeared overnight on the mountain side near the city.

5)Farmers have been loosing cattle, sheep and horses, no traces are left in the morning only a few drops of blood.

6)The heroes are hired to escort a caravan from one city to the next. Unknowingly this a caravan is composed of stolen goods and is being move out of town to fence it.

7)The adventures are all part of the same guild or order and build an adventure on their class.

8)A stolen artifact must be recovered. The artifact is linked with a young beautiful female/male noble. Her/his life essence is being drained by the absence of the artifact, a king ransom is offered to find this artifact. After the artifact is found the noble only offers one tenth of what was promised(since it was just a verbal contract) and has the heroes escorted out of his luxurious mansion by very well armed soldiers. This noble villains now pest the heroes for their trouble but within the boundaries of the law.

etc.....

Cheers!

Is the DM being an asshole, or did you guys all agree to "reset" things? My college group never really did "reset" our first generation Star Wars RPG characters... Hell, General Logan is alive and kickin' today!

Maybe he should be brought in for a CHUD RPG foray into that galaxy far, far away...

I've been trying to get them to switch over to 3rd edition for about a year now, and they are finally seeing the light. Not that 2nd is bad, I jsut like 3rd better. I think it balances the characters more.

The best ideas are things your players won't expect you to do. If you can pull of some kind of "twist" they never saw coming, go for it.

Problem is, players tend to derail a complex plot, by going off inunpredicted ways. Have a few plans to get them back on track.

Basing it on a flick won't hurt, unless they've seen the movie themselves, or unless you cchange up a few key points.

Movies are a great springboard, but don't let them limit you either.

Bah! players have tendency to do whatever they wish.

Create a broad story line with specific goals and be prepared for sideline adventures or sidetracks.

Sure you can try to guide back on "the path" but nothing really guaranties that the players will follow.

If you want to play an ongoing campaign I suggest that you take good or neutral players.

Evil players have a tendency to plot against each other, paranoid, murder each other, break oaths, steal, abandon other players in combat, act in a generally untrusting and traitorous ways, sure this can be fun or entertaining, but in the long run becomes more annoying more that anything else.

Cheers!

Isn't there a page in one of the D&D books with a list of names for the different races? I tried to limit the amount of personal names in my 1st adventure, and found that the players found it boring and unimaginative. I remember seeing a list somewhere, but forgot.
