Quote:
Poxy Bay Buccaneers:
He kneels over Zeta, heavy on his chest, and draws back the makeshift dagger.
"Next time, fuckin' stay dead and save us all the grief."
He pulls back, poised to swipe the edge across Zeta's throat. |
Zeta was horror stricken for a second, before weakly letting his weapon clank to the ground. "I... I," he mumbled, carefully slipping out a parting shot, "I really hate this fucking cannery."
In a single, swift motion, Paulie cleared his conscience of the death of Capella.
Anthony Zeta gurgled a fleeting final thought, then and slumped against the useless helicopter. Flames flickering against his lifeless pupils.
Paulie rushed to Roman's side. "You hit, Rome?"
Sirens echoed. The relentless Commissioner Graves had final gotten word. Roman was battered an beaten, but was alive. Panting a bit from enduring the longest night of his life, he carefully gave another direction to his infamous lieutenant.
"Go Paul," he offered sternly, as if he would hear nothing to the contrary. "Get whoever's left outta here."
The Jester wanted to argue, but he shut his mouth instead. DiVialoso jumped down from the helipad onto the roof's slick surface, making his way quickly to the stairwell door. Rather than get choked up, Paulie simply offered a respectful nod to his boss... no, his brother.
With an honor transcending anything Zeta had ever known, Roman Carvaggio lifted his tired body, paced across the landing site and gathered the dropped shard of glass. As if on cue, the rainstorm died. Morning's light approached.
Paulie and Othello met up a few moments later at the parking lot, quickly collecting one of the defunct delivery trucks and making their way to the edge of town.
Their thoughts lingered with Roman, and with Frank and Virgil, who had already departed with the wounded Dino in an abandoned Cadillac.
Both vehicles sped sway in opposite directions, staying clear of the incoming squad cars. Carvaggio waited with the patience of a samurai.
As morning arrived, things seemed unusually peaceful. The rain was gone, and an unfamiliar sun brought with it a new day. Coldstone was quiet...
