Houston Invades Dallas May 29-June2nd

It's time for A-Kon, again. Hastur, myself, Andrew (lurker that some of you met last year), and probably Dark Hedgehog are invading Dallas. The con's at the Hyatt DFW, and we'll be available evenings Thurs-Sat, possibly early lunch on Monday. We won't need a ride this time, although we made need explosives to find a parking space when we get back (about 3,500 pre-reg + walkins will equal alot of people in the parkinglot. Hotel sold out months ago).
Although Thurs is the best day for us to meet up for dinner with you guys, it's probably not for you...not to mention any Chewers, like Momotoro, who are showing up to A-kon. So, if people want to meet up, start posting here.
I'm suggesting Celebration over on Lover's Lane...phenomenal food, not real expensive, great atmosphere.

NOTE: I'd also like to know who's coming in from out of town to go to the Con, like D'kay and Momotoro, and who in town I should keep an eye out for in the con.
Then we can descend on the other Dallas Chewers like the hoarde we are.

Hmmm...Tony's not available for dinner any night but Thurs, Momotoro and D'Kay (I haven't heard from her, but I'm assuming she'd want to meet people) won't be in until Fri, and Hastur & Andrew can't do anything BUT dinners Thurs, Fri, and Sat because they're running bullet scenarios....
Ack. We could have multiple meets, maybe? Dinner somewhere Thurs, Lunch somewhere Sat? (Then it becomes a questions of not missing something on Sat day that those going to A-kon wanted to se....)

PS: Versus is showing at the con, we just don't know when yet.

One side warning for Sat afternoon antics...it will be impossible to find a parking space upon return to the hotel.
It'd be slightly better (only "nigh-impossible") on Sunday, but then we face problems trying to get enough seats together during Dallas AfterChurch Brunch Rush From Hell at the resturant.

Update on A-kon for those attending the con itself:
THURS night, before the con...065 rooms booked. That's not staff, or con guests, but attendees.

We beat last year's pre-reg ticket count...approx 3.5k. On-site registration tends to be larger than pre-reg.

There's a new system in place for registration that should hopefully make this run smoother than it did last year, when the hotel moved everything on us. wink Also, pre-reg will apparently be open on Thurs as well, so that should help.

Grovel cam (making people who lose their badges grovel for the cameras) will be back on the closed circut TV in the hotel.

We're getting several world premiers to show at the con, most likely at opening ceremonies Fri night. One or two of these are yet-to-be-officially-premiered Animatrix shorts, and one of these appears to be an 8-min segment from some major new movie from Japan that hasn't been shown anywhere (hence, world premier)....so secret, the guest isn't even telling Meri, the director, what it is. (Just hope it's not hentai)

We're showing VERSUS at some point.

Anyways, I still haven't heard when it airs...we should start congealing WHEN we're gonna meet everyone, though.
Hastur is running games (Momotoro, trust me, you'll wanna be in one of these) from Noon-6pm. We could do 7ish on Sat, and be back to the Con by 10 (when a few of us go on duty)....which is also when the dance starts, if anyone wants to come out (this is a SERIOUS dance, trust me). This, however, would leave Tony out, since he can't do anything after 3 that day.

Do Tony & Momotoro know each other? Will they care if we have dinner with Tony on Thurs as well? Would anyone else come out for a Thurs dinner and the Sat dinner?
Shelby's out, btw, and I haven't heard from D'Kay.

I'm staff all day...I'm an assistant director. I have one of the easiest jobs though, since my staff ractically run themselves, and my actual shift is 6-10am.
However, Claudia is running stuff all day (Play one of her games! Wyrd Images) and Dark Hedgehog has a shift at some point during the day, hence Sat night being the only real time available for us.

So, 7ish at Celebration sound good on Sat? (Sheepishly looks in Tony's direction.) Can someone local check and see if we need a reservation? Celebration, on Lover's lane.

I'm still up for doing two dinners, one Thurs for Tony & Katanga (sans Momotoro, D'Kay, and anyone else that shows up for A-kon)...no one else chimed in about doing that except those two, is anyone else interested?
My only blockage there is that I still don't know when the staff meeting is on Thurs. Sent a mail to the Powers That Be about that this morn.

Maybe on Sat, we can just lure Kitty and Dave up to the dance at the con (you can get free parking with a validated parking pass), since they're the only two locals available and interested on that night.

Wyrd Images=Hastur's (aka Claudia's) games. Also the makers of the Cthulhu balls you'll see in the dealer's room and with a hawker walking around...if you see the Hawker running around proclaiming that he's "got Yoor Balls"...they can tell you where to find Claudia or to sign up for games. If you see a grown up Wednesday Addams running around going "ALRIGHT! I NEED VOLUNTEERS TO BE DRIVEN CRAZY!" at the top of her lungs, that would be her.

Division 6= Meri's Personal Gopher Staff (Meri=Head of the Con=Easter Bunny). I'm in charge of it. We basically follow her around and run errands for her. We used to be ESWAT, then Secret Service, been Division 6 last few years to tie into the Men In Black animated series.

Ok, why don't we do Celebration on Thurs night? I just found out the Staff head meeting is at 3pm, and the full Staff meeting is 10pm, so I've got a window perfect for grabbing dinner at Celebration at, say, oh, about 6:30? (Any locals know how bad the traffic is between 6-6:30 between DFW & Lovers Lane?)

I'm 99.9% sure the link below (which is apparently too long for the URL code to take) is it, because I remember it was close to Lemmon. I'll call later on to confirm, they ain't open at this hour.

Now, for Sat, what do you folks that can make it wanna do? That would be Kitty and Dave as our locals...know anything up by DFW that'd be a good place to grab dindin? (Unless you wanna do Celebration again. I sure as hell wouldn't mind)
