Shelby Across Texas (Or I need recommendations)

Well, in 2 weeks I am taking off for a 10 day vacation to Austin, Corpus Christi, South Padre Island, & San Antonio. This will be my first visit to any of these places and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of restaurants or nightlife. I know Austin is supposed to be a pretty kick ass party town and I'm staying at the Embassy Suites on S. Congress on Friday night (the 11th, my only night in Austin). Actually here is my itinerary (don't know about Corpus yet):

Austin
Embassy Suites
300 S. Congress

South Padre Island Rentals
Villa Del Sol
E. Verna Jean Drive

San Antonio
Howard Johnson's
IH-35

Also, if anyone in any of these places wants to meet up that's cool too

Well, I don't know if this a point of interest or not, but the bottling plant in Dublin, Tx which is just out of the Dallas/Ft. Worth area is the only plant that still uses cane sugar in their Dr. Pepper. It has an excellent taste, and if you and your family want they give tours. Kinda dorky, I'll admit. I guess it's only a place to visit if you love your D.P.

<a href="http://www.dublindrpepper.com" target="_blank">Dublin Dr. Pepper</a> is the place to visit if your interested.

San Antonio, of course, has the riverwalk. SOme caveats about the city, though:
*It may look like a city, but the mentality is very small town there. In fact, they like the phrase "The largest small town you'll ever live in" alot. Unfortunately, it's mostly the negative small town mentalities.
*Streets wind to hell and back, and roads will change from two lanes to one lane with no warning whatsoever. Because of this, folks in town are always watching the road, never their surroundings. What this means is that if you ask directions from 5 different people, you'll get 5 different directions, 4 of them wrong. (This happened to me when I was trying to find a street 2 blocks away.)
*Have fun visiting, but don't stay too long or they'll suck you in.

Hrm...there aren't any regular Chewers actually in Austin, San Antonio, or Corpus/Padre, are there?

At first, I thought this was gonna be a thread about "Who lives nearby so we can meet?" But really, it looks like a "Here's exactly where I will be, just tell me about it" thing.

Is that it?

Depending on the how long you'll be in Austin (edit: I know you said one night, but I didn't know if you'd be there both the day before and after that night) and at what time of day, you should try for different things.

Daytime:
The stores on South Congress. Just head away from the capital, and you'll run into a strip of funky shops. Explore away, there's some really cool stuff there. Eat at <a href="http://austin.citysearch.com/profile/10210750/" target="_blank">Magnolia Cafe</a> while you're there. Be sure to get chips and Mag Queso. Bring a swimsuit and go to <a href="http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/parks/bartonsprings.htm" target="_blank">Barton Springs.</a> Stop in <a href="http://www.waterloorecords.com/" target="_blank">Waterloo Records</a> on 6th and Lamar to browse or buy. Get some ice cream (I recommend a Mexican Vanilla shake, actually) at <a href="http://www.amysicecream.com/" target="_blank">Amy's Ice Cream</a> (S. Congress or also at 6th and Lamar). Go to <a href="http://austin.citysearch.com/profile/11354327" target="_blank">Texpresso</a> and order a double Texpresso on ice. Thank me later. Take in a movie, a beer, and a meal at the <a href="http://www.drafthouse.com/" target="_blank">Alamo Drafthouse.</a>

Nighttime: 6th street/downtown wharehouse district. Go dancing/drinking, see live bands, etc. You might want to check to see <a href="http://pollstar.com/tour/searchall.pl?Content=C-TX_Austin&Date_From=Today&Date_To=06-30-2005&By=City&PSKey=Y&StartSearch.x=18&StartSearch. y=16" target="_blank">who's playing in the clubs</a> when you'll be here.

Have fun, and remember that you can't get anywhere north or south of town in under an hour during rush hour.

I was going to suggest the Drafthouse, glad someone beat me to it.
