And did you know Evanescence is a christian band?
Could be, but they deny it. The weather was perfect for the concert, and the Bud Light tasted good despite the fact that it was Bud Light.

On a weather related note, several people were swept off of I-35 near Emporia due to flash flooding. Not all of them have been found yet. That is some freaky shit. I've been on that road dozens of times during torrential rains, and I've never seen it covered in water. Must have been a cloud ripper.

I don't know how I missed <a href="http://www.ccmmagazine.com/MusicNews/fullstory.asp?Id=949" target="_blank">this </a>or <a href="http://www.rollingstone.com/news/newsarticle.asp?nid=17904" target="_blank">this from Rolling Stone even</a>.

It's not a Christian Band. Their religion may influence some of their songs, but it's no more a Christian band than Creed is.

You guys can have our rain. Really. We won't mind.

Like Carl, I have to say you're describing a pretty normal summer for us.

I fugre they didn't want to fall into the "Christian" rock group stereotype and this reacted accordingly when Christian stations started proclaiming them thus.

I can see where Christians making music could get ticked if all of a sudden because of their Christianity they are a Christian band.
But being labeled a Christian band shouldn't be a bad thing. Sure, certain things are expected of you all of a sudden from your peers, but if you're a christian, you should be doing those things anyway.
The problem they saw, was that they were afraid of a stigma attached to them by the secular crowd if they were publicized as a "christian" band. Instead, by denouncing their christianity, they lost a good chunk of their listeners, seeing as they were being pushed heavily on the christian market and radios by their studio (a well-known christian fronter). Whether their personal beliefs come into play or not, doesn't matter. It's the lack of message in the material and their apparent secular actions in public that make them a secular band. That, and the fact that they took a condescending attitude toward the christian market. I wonder what Wind-Up record execs thought when they alienated that (relatively large) portion.

It's absolutely beautiful outside today, btw. Upper 60s and partly cloudy.

this is funny. It's like a thread that ends each post with a weather report

Where's yours?

Northeast Kansas is soggy and cool after a full day of rain.

I think Evanescence is going for the non-secular following of performers like Tori Amos, who has a similar style in her songs. Those fans are completely devoted to the artist, and obviously always buy the records and attend the concerts. Coincidentally, Evanescence does a good job performing their music live.

It is now 1:08am, 56 degrees under mostly cloudy skies.

I have no doubt that they put on a good show, and will have diehard fans. Most bands do...except Creed. In my opinion though, they stupidly lost a portion of their market by renouncing their supposedly christian label. It's understandable that they don't want to be stigmatized as a "Christian Contemporary Band" but to lead the christian market on for that long, knowing full-well that they were gaining market share under false-pretenses, was wrong.

At the beep, it will be 3:38AM and 55 degrees...

*BEEEEEP*

I'm not so sure that they aren't a Christian band. They probably are, but someone is telling them that it's not a good idea to get too preachy, ala Creed. Their next album will tell the story.

According to the Old Farmer's Almanac, tomorrow will be rainy with a high of N/A and a low of 52.

According to their interview...

Quote:
"There are people hell-bent on the idea that we’re a Christian band in disguise, and that we have some secret message. We have no spiritual affiliation with this music."

and

"We’re actually high on the Christian charts," says Moody, "and I’m like, what the fuck are we even doing there?"
Whether they are christian or not outside of the studio, their music is decidedly secular, and apparently they wanted the line to be fuzzy in order to make the most money from both markets.

It's still 55 degrees here and mostly cloudy. We should be in the low-mid seventies tomorrow...great sleeping weather.

I'm just glad they don't go for the whole new messiah crap that Creed does. They walk the line between marketing coup and budding artists. The singer has a strong voice and she seems very natural on stage.

If they attracted more of the Christian rock crowd, whatever that might be, I think the Wicca/Lesbian group would show up in smaller numbers. Or there would be one hell of a riot, which might be fun to watch.

7-day Outlook: 0% chance of snow.
I haven't found Creed to be that ministerial(menstrual, yes)...but I have to admit that I don't particularly listen to them, EVER. I don't really plan on it either, even if they are a ministry band. My tastes are across the spectrum when it comes to CCM. I'm currently listening to FM Static.

There's a slight chance of storms late in the week. Nothing up front but partly cloudy and 80's though...

Well, Wisconsin's hot, muggy weather finally broke.

Unfortunately, it occurred during a camping trip. On our way to our site (~a 3 hr drive) it rained pretty well the whole way, but the weather broke when we were about 10 minutes out, allowing us to set up our tent, and drink much alcohol under a beautiful, starry sky. At about 3 am it began raining again - and KEPT raining for about 12 or 13 hrs, causing us to say "fuck it", pack up our campsite in a torrential downpour (we had several people, so it was LOTS of stuff) and head to the nearest dry house (about an hour away).

The topper is about 5 minutes from the house, the wife and I got tagged in a four-car accident.I'd estimate about $2000 in damage to her car.

I blame God for making it rain. wink

Snow? SNOW? WTF?

*checks the sky*
Where's OUR snow, I ask?!
I hope our snow stays in Colorado.
I love the snow, but it's so damn perfect outside right now it can wait a few months.
I can't wait for it to snow so it will cover the sad state of affairs that is my lawn and landscaping.
My lawn isn't looking to terrible, the last week of rain brought it back from the brink. My landscaping is shit though.

Seen the video for Gravedigger yet? Can't complain about anything featuring Candy Man.
Hell yes. VH1 plays it for me every morning when I'm getting ready for work. I love that Tony Todd is in it. Too bad most DMB fans don't have a clue who he is. Since it's the greatest video to ever feature Dave Matthews I'm sure RCA will find some way to cock up a DVD release. Even if it's in the 2003 Warehouse membership package that will never come, something will be wrong.
My wife thinks Tony Todd is the most terrifying man of all time.
