Hastings

I think this joint is primarily found in the Midwest so that's why I'm putting this here.

They must be getting their asses handed to them by Border's, Barnes & Noble, Best Buy, etc. because they appear to have dropped their prices on a whole lot of stuff. Are any of you noticing a price change in your area?

Rental prices were still high, though. Two movies and the total was almost eight bucks. And I finally got through the checkout without getting carded. Victory!

Our Hastings is pretty cheap but it has always been that way.

I have never seen anyone get carded for anything at the local store.

I used to get carded all the time. I hated it.

I think Hastings kicks the asses of Barnes and Noble and other retail bookstores, because they have a percentage discount off of the cover price on all books. However, they usually can't compete with Best Buy and other retailers on music and DVD prices, at least during the first week of a given release. I still like Hastings more than the other stores because it feels more like a homegrown store and they carry a good selection of used CDs/DVDs.

There prices are fine, but waiting in line for anything is a chore. SLOOOOOWWW as slugtits.

They have no idea how to promote or display tuesdays releases.

I'd agree on both counts, Zod. I cut them a little slack on the staffing thing because if that keeps their prices down, I'll wait in line a bit. They could really stand to expand their DVD rental line also. I'm sick of thinking about buying Kurosawa movies, I just want to rent the piss out of them.

The only reason I rent at Hastings is because they are the only place in town that rents foreign films.

They definitely don't know how to promote the new releases. I went to a release "party" for an album once. They played the record at 11 PM and that was it. Just stand around and wait until midnight to buy the CD. Booooring.

Definately not out here in the East Coast.

One thing about Hastings that is a bit annoying, when a sequal comes out they put the original back on the new release rack and bump the price. You can't charge new release rates for Shark Attack 2 just because Shark Attack 3 just came out.
