Mark me down as a very strong probable! If I can't, I will let you know asap. What time are we looking at? Spouses? Solo? Group purchase or at the box office or what?
I say sure to spouses - the mo' the merrier.

This covers my ass since if I went to Chi-town (anyone up for drinks after the film?) without the Mrs. I would be in for a big-time ass-whuppin' when I got home. wink

EDIT: Oh, and since I may not arrive on time, I'd prefer to NOT be included in a group buy - I'd hate to hold people up for getting in, etc.
All sounds fine by me! I just want to meet/hang with you all. I'm game for pretty much anything afterwards. Well, within reason. Heh.

Okay, kidlets..let's see if I can one-up HAM this morning.

Check this out! (I'm phoning in from heaven at the moment, btw)

Free..did you hear me? I'll say it again.

FREE CONCERT WITH STING AND JONNY LANG ON TUES 10/7 IN GRANT PARK!

Only glitch is...you have to scratch & win the tix. American Express is offering up 500 pairs of free tix to the show and 3 lucky winners will receive backstage passes to meet Sting! If you're really desperate, you can get VIP tix for the low, low, low Lithgow discount (NOT) of $300 each which includes hospitality, food & drink, special laminates and laynard into the VIP section. All proceeds go to VH-1 Save The Music Foundation.

Go here! Go now! Go often!
http://www.stingattheblue5.com/index.html

Make sure you have all your spy/ad blocker crap turned off first or you can't play. You roll a coin (pretty tricky) over 3 boxes to match and win.

Good luck to you all and IF by chance you win the tix and I don't...I hope you freeze your fanny's off! wink

Oops, before I forget...vote for HAM's Batman, too!

Definately yes to the spouses. My wife digs Bruce Campbell as much as I do. We're a for sure for the 17th.

Is there a way to get advanced tickets?

Can't do Sting on the 7th, though. It's our anniversary.

October 4th! Anyone game? This is a yearly trek for my family. Country setting in the fall= win-win for me. All the sideshows aside, they have some of the best shops around in every price range with great ideas for early Christmas hunting. They also make their own apple "everything" right on the premises. From cider to bread (fresh from the oven) and much more. Pure heaven.
Long Grove is the town over from mine. The fiance & I go there all the time. They've got a couple great Irish stores & the food is great. However, I'm going to be in Minneapolis for a wedding this weekend.

But....

I'm definately in for Bubba Ho Tep. I doubt my lady is going to accompany me, though. I'm ALWAYS down for beverages as well.

Glad to hear you're in, Gutty. Beverages are a must. I used to live a couple blocks from that theater, so I know the area pretty well. There are some pretty good bars in the area we could go to.

I'm trying to get info on advanced tickets. So far, it seems it's too far in advance.
I'm a Cub fan. Can we still be friends?

Boom, Happy Anniversary to you both as well! Please keep us posted on the tix, if you would.

I'm trying to talk my husband into forgetting about trying for the Sting/Lang tix and heading on down there anyway. I'm sure we can still get close enough to hear the show. I dunno. It's looking a little bleak at the moment and I'm losing the fight.

GFC, have a great time at the wedding this weekend! Ah, so you know Long Grove well. Cool.
We have a carload of 5 as it stands right now and we're hoping that Social & Swykk will be meeting us up there, later in the afternoon. Glad to hear you are joining us for the show at least!

I hope others will feel free to join us. Any other Chewers that have or haven't posted in this thread? Come on in!

Gonna' have to out-do me again, Avalon.

As you can tell by my name this would be pretty cool for me. Now I must find out how to get tickets.

So are tickets going to be near impossible to get now? I'm oblivious to how good or bad the movie scene is in the city.

Tickets can be bought through Moviefone.com, but it seems that tickets can only be purchased 2 or 3 days in advance. Still working on it...

That's what I fear. I've seen a lot of films at that theater, and they are usually pretty full. It's a pretty artsy part of the city.

More detailed location of the theater:

2828 N. Clark at the intersection of Broadway/Clark/Diversy. It's on the 4th floor of the Century Mall.

I'm in for sure.

What about fandango for the tix? They usually have stuff way in advance.

I checked... Landmark theaters don't sell tickets through Fandango, they only show showtimes. Plus, I hate those stupid Fandango commercials.
Called the theater last night after I posted this, and the manager told me that they haven't made the screening schedule yet. They'll know in a week exactly how it will job out, and he told me that www.moviefone.com will be doing advance tickets as well.

Also, I signed on for the street team for the flick - which ends up being a line to Silver Sphere - so they might be able to provide info...

But Bruce said he will be there. The Woods shooting schedule kept him from making the premiere, but he'll make it to Chi-Town.

I'm dumb... what does that mean?
I'm supposed to help promo it. Give posters to retailers and stuff like that. There's nothing in it for me at the end of the day, and it's not like there's work involved - after I saw the flick I kinda' just voluteered to get the word out that it would bow in Chicago, so it amounts to putting up posters in a few trendy and nerdy places, and hopin' people will be curious enough to see it.
Ah, so we have another victim joining us, I see! Cool!

*edited because Sparky wasn't paying attention.

The 4th is still up in the air, Avalon, but I'll keep you posted!

If it wasn't clear before, I (and the fiancee) are in - both for the show and libations afterward, though she has to work Saturday, so we won't be able to stay TOO long. frown

Excellent news.

Plus to everyone who hasn't figured it out about Chavez. I had the pleasure of meeting him on Wednesday for drinks. He's great people and even cooler in real life; you all have nothing to fear with him. I'd welcome him into my house to play with my biting cats...and that's a compliment.

Me, on the otherhand, you have to fear...
Excellent news?

Chavez, seriously, that's a no-fun trip after an evening show and partying. You and your lady are welcome to crash back at our place if you like. That way you can play later, catch some z's before heading back and still deliver her to work on time. Better still...have her take Saturday off!

Boom, that's so cool that you two had a chance to meet beforehand. Be afraid of you? No way.
You want to meet some really scary people? Just you wait! Mwuahahaha. I've met many, many people through netting and they've all been very cool. Trust me, I've checked everyone's credentials.

Social, either you is or you isn't, woman! Drop me an e when you know. I'll check it before we head out tomorrow. Hope you can make it!

Have a fab Friday, peoples.

But keep me posted, because I would definately like to partake in a Chi-town chewer get together!

Wait, what? "Biting cats"? I thought you said you LIKED me. wink

Beside, the last wound I received from the vicious ball of fur that I call "Harley" is just barely healed. I'm not ready for another round of cat scratch fever yet.

It was a compliment. I'm very protective of my cats... they are my kids. One of them, Pagoda, bites a lot when he plays, that's all.

Thanks for the "e", Social. Heh.

We had a great time. Sorry you missed it. I bought 3 loaves of apple bread, 1 large jar of apple butter, 1 apple poundcake and 1 banana poundcake. Oh, yeah, got some Christmas gifts and candles/potpourri too. We're going back in November, so maybe you can hook up with us then.

I hope I didn't scare ya, Chavez. It was just a thought.

Tomorrow..Sting/Lang vs Cubs. Ack!

Heck, I aint' a-skeered o'nothin'.

But Saturday off is a no-go; I'll probably try to catch some z's between when I get home and when she gets home, so I should be fine to drive; plus we have friends in Chicago we could stay with if necessary, and we wouldn't have to worry about horrifying them with our insanely disheveled waking appearances and world-class morning breath. wink

Hey, Boom & crew....

GFC, I hope you had a good time at the wedding.

Social, no need to apologize. We'll hook up somewhere down the line.

horrifying them with our insanely disheveled waking appearances and world-class morning breath.

Okay. They win! wink

Vent of rage ahead...

It takes MUCH to make me angry and right now I'm so f'n po'd that I came here to vent. I repeatedly told my husband that I wanted to head downtown tonight. Many, MANY times. When I tried him on his cell phone after work, I got nada response. He strolls in at 7:30 and says we can't go to the Sting concert without tickets. The concert started at 7:00. I repeated myself for the 5th fucking time that I didn't want to GO IN, but that I just wanted to try and get near so we could at least hear it. His response? Well, it's too late now. Then my son invites his friends over to watch a horror flick and my hub gets up in arms because they've decided to watch it on the big screen tv. A big smile comes across my face and I respond with.."I miss Sting and now dad misses the Cubs on the big screen...awwwwwww."

Revenge is sweet, but I'm too pissed off to enjoy the game now anyway.

Love. Ain't it grand?????? Grrrrr....

Heh - my general response to "how do you know you love someone?" is "when they drive you absolutely fucking NUTS and you still don't want to leave them". wink
post #82 of 260
Sweetie, words of wisdom, no doubt.

However, can I please stay PISSED for a little while at least?

Ya wanna hear something really funny? In a last ditch effort to get my ass down there, I phoned my bro when I didn't get a response from the hub.

He gets on the line and I ask him if he planned on heading to the show. He says, "I'd love to, but I'm in Florida right now and you just caught me right after finishing the 18th hole. Your timing was perfect!"

There is no justice! NONE! frown

Stay pissed as long as is necessary; our personal record was the time Mel didn't speak to me for 3 days.

Ouch. Well, at least HE'S having fun.
3 days huh? We try and never go to bed angry. I might mumble a few choice words under my breath, but I'll maintain my composure. That's why I'm here. I'm venting now, so I don't later. (Sorry to derail a tad, Boom)

HE'S having fun.

Yep. I'm pretty sad about the whole thing. I've been jamming to his music quite a bit lately and I had such a good time at the last concert. *sigh*

Thanks for letting me vent. Sorry to derail.

Well, this is the thread for Chicago-area goings-on, and your house IS in the Chicago area, right?

Thus, goings on at your home are ON-TOPIC.
True that. Did I ever tell you about the time....

heh.

Anyhoo, on a lighter note, I did check the theatre link in the hopes of some early surprise, but no Bubba yet. If, and I mean a big IF by chance the tix go on sale during the day and I miss them, I PROMISE here and now that we will be there. Scratch that... I'LL be there, come hell or high water. We want to meet up with you all, but David has yet to be cleared for an early leave from work that day. So either at the theatre or the bars beyond, we WILL see ya's.
What showing are we planning on going to? 7 or 9?

Good question. HAM would be the one to answer that.

Tickets are now on sale for Bubba Ho-Tep at Moviefone.com. Do a search for Bubba Ho-tep, and make sure you put the - in Ho-tep.

Showtimes:
7:15
8:45
9:30

I think we should get tickets for the 9:30 showing. All agree?

I figure 9:30 works best so we can make sure everyone has ample time to get to the place.

I'm trying to figure out which screenings Bruce will be attending...
Any time slot is fine by me. I'd prefer to buy the tix this evening if at all possible. I guess we're just waiting on HAM's confirmation...so...

in the interim (in a teeny-tiny voice she exclaimed) we watched the game last night. woohoo.
I'd vote for 8:45 (would give me about 5 hrs to get there, and even Chicago traffic can't be that bad....can it?), but 9:30 is fine by me.

The word has been given. After consulting the Theater and the distributor, the 8:45 screening is indeed our best bet.

Stock up and save, kiddies.
Okay, little advice Chicagoans - I'm looking at taking Metra in - first off, how far is the Ashland Station (2001 N Ashland) from the theatre?

Second, how safe is the walk?

Should I just drive? How is parking?
I don't know about close to the theater the train stop is but if you drive, you are taking a BIG chance that you're going to be in traffic for hours. I drive away from the city going home from work every day & the lanes going into the city are backed up way into Lake County. Friday nights are even worse. I work next to O'Hare & going into the city (north side) from here on a Friday night takes around an hour and a half on the highway.

However, you also have to remember the train times as Metra does stop running around midnight or one. I'd take the train & cab it to the theater.
