Mask of Zorro

This movie doesnt get brought up enough. I always loved the old fashioned sword fights. As a kid I dug the fights in Princess Bride and all those Sinbad/greek Harryhousen flicks that were always on cable.
Anyhoo maybe thats why I love this flick , but its just realy really good. It just has the old fashioned movie feel to it. There is no throbbing techo, no special digital camera tricks. Just pure blissfull sword fights. And to me it just seems like it doesnt get mentioned enough. Anyone else really like this movie? Where the rest of them! I want a Zorro franchise!

Couldn't agree more. Clas act film all the way through. This is what summer movies are supposed to be. Big, entertaining, heartfelt, powerful, beautiful, and impeccably acted.

Sword fighting is my favorite form of movie action, and this film had it perfectly. Martin Campbell is also one of the best directors out there at getting as much out of a PG-13 rating as anyone. He knows exactly how far you can push it. That's why Zorro never feels cheap and always hits you.

They've been working on a sequel for a while, but the duo responsible rote "Shrek" and now is doing the sequel. But a sequel should definitely be made. This is one of my favorite films as well.

This movie needs some more love.

I just watched this film again and I really can't believe that I never hear anything about it anymore. Its well made, extremely well-acted, fun as hell, and has some great action. The sequel is supposedly about to get going, and I'm really glad.

Seriously, did CHUD miss this movie? People here seem to be able to really appreciate a good solid action flick, but I almost never hear any love for this movie.

Nor did I miss it - such a fun film. A good enough plot, some wild humor, great swordfights and Catherine Zeta-Jones.

I remember there being some sort of talk when the movie came out that Anthony Hopkins did not die in the theatrical version. Maybe I'm on crack, but is there any truth to this?

I can remeber being really disappointed with this film, especially as a fan of the old swashbucklers.. I didn't think the action was good enough and the whole "new zorro" plot was annoying to me. i just wanted to see a new adaption of the original zorro, so i guess I was in the wrong frame of mind. I plan on seeing it again soon.

Rath I remember an article in some magazine that said test audiences were really disappointed to see Hopkins die, so they changed it so that he lived. Obviously, they must have changed it back, but you're not crazy.

Test audiences are gerbils.

I love this movie like no other.

Besides the entertainingly fun Eskrow, Rossio and Elliot script, I was thoroughly entertained from start to finish. Martin Campbell is one of my favorite "guilty pleasure" directors, if only for the fact that he makes fun films that cater to the audience (did you not think that Vertical Limit, Goldeneye, and No Escape weren't at least fun in some respect?).

Zeta Jones was definitely very sexy in this film. I read somewhere, but who said it escapes me (maybe the USA Today guy?) where they said that she has the looks that could stop traffic. No complaints from me.

Horner's musical score was fun and touching and paid the right homage to the previous Zorro flicks, even though it was raped and pillaged for The Enemy at the Gates. I love the scene where Zeta Jones and Banderas fight in the barn and the accompanying musical score. Fun, fun, fun. One of the only things that I didn't like was that crappy schmaltzy end song, bleh..

On a side note, did anyone think that the L.Q Jones (who played Three Fingered Jack) was channeling Walter Huston in Sierra Madre? I just got that feeling watching it.

Anyways, here's hoping for a sequel.

The action scenes were nicely choreographed. Overall, it was a very entertaining film. What's taking them so long developing the sequel? Screw Spy Kids 3.

You know what bugged me about this movie? Banderas' clean-shaven Zorro. Why did he shave as Zorro? Zorro always had a moustache when I was a kid. He looked much cooler when he was the bargain basement Zorro before he got the real outfit.

Other than that it was pretty cool. I would like to see more of them.

I don't know, I liked the clean-shaven Zorro. It looks better with a mask I think. Imagine Batman with a moustache. Its the same thing I think, its just less badass. Plus I was kind of tired of the sort of dopey look it gave Zorro. Too much joker and not enough badass.
