Pretty good B-movie sci-fi. Strong lead performance by Peter Weller, and good work by a bunch of Canadian actors.

Other high points: The landscape, one of the better jobs of recreating an alien landscape on a low budget, and those interior shots of industrial military complexes. Yeah, it's not great, but it's pretty good - one of those films where you wonder what they could've done with half of a Bay or West budget.

The screamer robot special effects were pretty good, especially so considering the budget. The whole "evolution" idea was pretty silly, and they never really took it to the next level, but for what it is, it's pretty good. I still love the hell out of the flick.

Fuck yeah. The film had such a wonderfully bleak tone, great conveyance of isolation and fog-of-war. I thought the production design was tremendous for the budget, and I always love those robots-that-build-factories-that-build-robots storylines.

Kick ass. Gotta love robots slicing off guys arms and legs. One of the best openings. Its a shame the ending is inferior to the rest of the movie.

In its own way, too, it is very true to Phillip K. Dick's other work. Common themes are there. Wellwe is the master of playing the everyman making his way in a situation not of his doing and beyond his control.

I liked this flick a lot as well. When I saw Pitch Black (which I liked better) I was reminded of Screamers.

Stupid Fact Of The Day: The makers of Screamers tried to force Miramax to change the title of Scream, because they thought people would go and see it expecting to see Peter Weller versus slice-n-dice robots. They lost.
