This movie legitimately broke me. As I said in the Rise thread, I walked out of this having seen just far too many dumb, listless blockbusters about NOTHING, with no style, no interesting performances, and no good dialogue, and for a good while, I just said, I can't deal with movies anymore right now. Too many remakes that add nothing to the original mythology, too many empty blockbusters that felt perfunctory, and too many lame, boring Tim Burton movies. And here we are a decade later, and I feel like I've sat through so many permutations of that movie since then. At least the studio waited until now to hatefuck another Apes movie into existence. The one time this was on cable and I said, "I'll keep an open mind, I remember Tim Roth being good" I lasted about two minutes before I almost threw the remote at the television. Some movies are really shitty, and some are sliiiiiightly better, but there's something about their cynicism and lack of creativity that just wears you down. I was 17 when I first saw the remake, and I felt like I aged ten unhappy years watching the movie.
