One of the most cleverly marketed movies I've ever seen. Beautiful and touching. I really liked it and thought it was a better movie than LOTR, though LOTR appealed more to my base instincts. SPOILER

Even if you've read the book, the whole roomate-conspiracy-Ed Harris thing kind of throws you for a loop. You think that it's Hollywood, and that they normally fuck with people's lives to make movies more interesting. But oh, no, that's not what it turns out to be. Especially when it turns out that Paul Bettany is a delusion. That's probally the most shocking moment in the movie because we've come to love him so. Howard realy shines in the casting because casting Ed Harris lends itself to an aura of reality in the audience's mind. You think "Hey, it's Ed Harris, he's gotta be playing a real guy" which is what exactly Howard wants you to think. This direction, along with Akiva Goldsman's screenplay, is what won it the Oscars. However, I do have one question. When he went to the Pentagon to break the codes, was that part of his delusion, too? What was he doing all that time if he was?
