Trailer Music

The soundtrack section got me thinking about this. Have you ever been at the movies and recognized the music behind the trailer? I'm not talking about the songs, I'm talking about the temp score they usually put in.

For example, I can identify Jerry Goldsmith's main theme from Dragonheart score on ears. "Washington Square" from Searching For Bobby Fisher is another big one. That's the one with the piano where it swells and then peters out.

And of course, there is the immortal "Sword of Crom" from Conan The Barbarian .

Unfortunatly, in these rock based, simple plan shilling days, you hardly ever hear temp tracks used in movie trailers anymore. And I can think of lots of trailers where the mood would have been more effective if they used orchestral music instead of rock music.

Peace.

seems like every other trailer has either Horner's "Aliens" theme or "Clubbed to Death" from the Matrix soundtrack...

I hated the rock soundtrack on the last MiB2 trailer I saw. It was lame. They should have used the theme music, because it's cool.

For a while it seemed that every thriller/horror/dark action film was using the main theme from Bram Stoker's Dracula.

I get so upset when I hear an existing theme used in a trailer and my wife looks at me like I should have bigger things to worry about. I suppose she's right.

It's still irritating.

Randy Edelman's "Dragonheart" and "Dragon:The Bruce Lee Story" themes have been used and probably will continue to be used a lot. The theme from "The American President" gets used quite a bit, most notably in the "Saving Private Ryan" trailer.

"Unbreakable" has been used a lot lately.

Jerry didn't score "Dragonheart," that was Randy Edelman.

Some of you folks will be happy to know that the music heard in all the "Signs" trailers is actual James Newton Howard score from the film, some of it composed before the film was even shot!

Does anyone remember the trailer music for "Bram Stoker's Dracula"? I think it was composed specifically for the trailer, though not by Wojiech Kilar, the films' composer.

Not to be an anal dick, but it's 'Anvil of Crom'.

The Cast Away trailers and tv spots used James Horner's Braveheart score.

And K-19 is using Zimmer's Gladiator score.

The X-Men trailer used music from Dark City. I've heard the same music in another trailer recently as well, but the name of the movie being shilled escapes me at the moment.

Even though I am not really looking forward to this film, there is an interesting techno/classical song in the xxx trailer. Does anyone know who it is by?

Craig Armstrong's "Escape" track from Plunkett and McCleane's soundtrack. Used in Romeo Must Die, The Patriot, and something else I can't remember right at this moment.

I am planning on using this track as background music for my wedding and honeymoon video I'm going to edit for our relatives and family.

Title is ironic, I know.

I wish there was a website that was devoted to just giving the title to music played during trailers. this way we don't have to constantly hit our heads against a wall when we hear a piece of music and can't for the life of us figure out where the hell we heard it from before.

There is. Here.

Oooooooooooooh Yes...
Carmina Burana gets played everywhere. And it is such a great piece of music I hate how it gets shilled to frustration.

Question then....i just finished watching The Professional (sorry seems NetFlix did not have the original or if there even is an original) and decided to watch the trailer and found piece of music I love but never knew the name to. It gets used alot as well. It plays at the end of that trailer...as it almost always does. Anyone know the name to this piece i am sure was on Time Life's Classical Thunder or what not?

James Horner's score from Glory had that track I think.

Actually I'm sure of it.

The last stirring piece of music as the 54th battalion charge up the sandhills after Shaw gets shot down.

well damn...
thanks khitcher, my prayers have been answered!

Alan Silvestri's "Gump" score is used a lot too.

I know this is alittle off topic, but it has to do with Trailer Music: What was the song they played with the new XXX preview? I thought I've heard it before, but I could be wrong.

Go here and see if you recognize the music played beneath the clips.
The most overused music for trailers EVER.

I'm curious to know if James Horner gets paid every time the Glory music is used. And if so, how much.
If he does he could simply retire and live off residuals from trailers.
