Two things I didn't know about The Matrix II and III...

Finally got around to reading the Entertainment Weekly article on The Matrix reloaded, and learned two things that may be old hat but that perked up my interest:

1. The Matrix III is being released in theatres Novemver 2003, right after the May 2003 release of the Matrix II. A November release shouldn't affect The Two Towers BO too terribly much if at all, but its cool that two huge movies are coming out at that time of year together AND that we are getting two matrix films in one year.

2. Marcus Chong (the guy who played Tank in the original, and who was one of my favourite characters. I defy any programmer to say that he doesn't want to grow up some day to be an Operator) WILL NOT BE IN THE SEQUELS:

"...then there's the peculiar case of Marcus Chong, who played Tank, one of only four major human characters to survive the original. The actor had a falling out with the producers and embarked on a series of bizzare episodes which, he told EW, included crashing a press junket, harassing the directors by phone, and sneaking into-and taking food from-the Matrix ofices on the Warner Bros lot in Burbank. He was, unsurprisingly, not invited back for the sequels."

This was very depressing news for me, as I thought he did a great job and I was looking forward to seeing him in the sequels. Does anyone know what the tiff was all about then? SJR? Beaks? Anyone?

I didn't know about Chong either, until I read that article last week. It's a shame, really...Tank had a humanistic charm that seriously added to the film.

As for Nov '03, don't forget to add another Harry Potter movie, in theory...the one with the best story of the series, so far.

I read somewhere a while back (DH, CA, Comingsoon?) that Chong was demanding Keanu sized paychecks for the sequels, plus generally being a dick. I could try to find it, but I wouldn't know where to start.

I liked Tank, but his character could easily be explained away and a new operator installed.

I can say with certainty that Matrix III will have NO impact on The Two Towers' box office, since it will have been out for a year by the time Matrix III opens.

I'm assuming you meant Return of the King.

Colour me stupid why don't you Poxy...

Fucker!

Yes, that is what I meant. TTT comes out THIS YEAR. THIS. YEAR. 2002.

Yeah, even by his own admission Chong was apparently doing some freaky stuff, calling in terrorist threats and stalking the producers. On the other hand, he apparently didn't get ANY raise at all, the only one of the originals to do so. Which is a bit greedy. So I dunno.

[General observation]

2003 is going to be quite *the* stylish year for movies, isn't it?

Regarding Chong, I liked Tank a lot, and it's a shame.

The new character is called Link. He's played by Harold Perrineau Jr. It's part of a hush-hush Matrix/Zelda crossover.

It also occurs to me that in 2003, HP will be up to "Prisoner of Azkaban", which ruled as a book, AND, (yes there's an and) it probably won't be directed by Chris Columbus. Seeing as he's fed up with commuting.

So it could be a contendah. Possibly.

Is Augustus really the new operator? If so, that kicks ass way more than having Tank back. I didn't know what part he was playing. Until I saw the pics from Time, I thought he was the new dread-sporting virus in the white suit.

BTW: I'll betcha anything they don't get "Prisoner of Azkaban" done for 2003. UNLESS Colombus signs a deal sometime in the next few months, but it sounds like he won't.

It'll take too long to bring in a new director.

I believe Columbus has bowed out of HP after the second installment. From what I hear, they're narrowing it down to Alfonso Cuaron, who would be a marvelous choice.

How far apart were Back to the Future 2 and 3 released?
BTTF 2 - November 22 1989
BTTF 3 - May 25 1990

surprisingly a pretty good distance apart.

IMDB has Harry Potter and the Prizoner of Azkebangashalamadamdingdong listed as 2005. Which is all right.

I liked the Little Princess and all, but I don't see why Curon is right for Harry Potter. I'd much rather like to see someone like Branagh take the reins, then turn it over to big Terry G. for Goblet of Fire.
