Manufacturing Consent

Quite an interesting documentary about Senior Chomsky and we get to hear him call someone a "Mucky-muck". Also a fine example of trademark National Film Board techniques.

Outstanding, and crucial. But we desperately need an updated edition offering Chomsky's perspective on issues that have arisen post-Sept.11--the "Saddam" issue in particular.

Well, I doubt he'd be up for that. Chomsky cooperated with the filmakers, but as far as I know didn't actively take part in making the movie. He's got a collection of lectures on September 11 (titled simply 9-11) out and I known he contributed to a book against the war in Iraq, but I forget the name of it.

Once I dreamed that I was watching a DVD of the Chuck Norris movie "Delta Force", and Chomsky was doing the audio commentary.

Manufacturing Consent is a great documentary. The team behind it goes way out of its way to show both Chomsky's take on the issues in the film and those of his detractors, which makes his side of the argument seem even more compelling and straightforward by comparison. I think this would be an awesome companion piece to the season of The Wire that explores how an American newsroom works.
