You people may need better muscle control. |
Well, it's not really about muscle control, cos the whole thing is about your involuntary muscles.
Basically what I think happens is that you are looking at the screen, and drinking. So you've closed off your windpipe with your uvula (which I think is the little hanging thing at the back of your throat) and the fluid goes down your esophagus so you don't, like, drown in Coke, which would be a really grim way to go.
But if you laugh, especially if it's forcefully and you didn't expect it, air comes rushing out of your lungs, breaks the seal keeping Coke out of your lungs, and a tiny drop or two may get in. This triggers an explosive reflex as your lungs try to clear that passage stat, hence blowing fluids all over your monitor.
You can *sort* of control it if it's only a tiny drop, or you've only been sipping not glugging your drink, but really, generally, the whole thing revolves around involuntary responses.
If you're anything like me, this is going to happen a lot, as I sit at a PC for work, drink drinks all day, and am constantly looking for something new to laugh at.
It's not a big deal. I mean, I can see how it would be annoying if I came round and blew Coke all over *your* monitor, but since this lack of social grace occurs mercifully out of sight, I fail to see how it could irritate.
