Need some car advice - Page 2

To those bagging on Nelson for spending wastefully and for not investing or saving his money, I'd ask that you consider how he achieved the level of wealth that got him here in the first place.

I don't think anyone disciplined enough to be a long-term investor (as he is) is then simply going to shoot his wad for a car that will indeed depreciate in value as soon as he takes possession of it.

Fact is...the guy has made money. He wants to spend some. It's his to do with as he pleases.

I'll allow that to ask people who can't and probably won't be able to afford these rides "Which one should I get?" smirks of bragging, but I honestly don't think his intentions are that base. Just like when he announced his considerable stock profit a little while ago...he's doing well and wants to share. I can't hate him for that. I personally hope to read many threads about Chewers achieving the goals they want to achieve and succeeding either financially or personally or however in their lives.

In the meantime, if they ask which expensive toy should I get, whether it's a Porsche here or an HDTV in the Chewer Tech forum or nice digital camera or whatever, don't give them too much grief. I hope you guys will be asking the same questions about whatever it is you want, material or otherwise. They're good problems to have.

Now that I drive... oh man, God help my sinning soul, but I can see the lure of hot wheels.

I got took out for a drive in a Porsche once, in the Scottish hills, and it was really nice. Hugged the road no matter how sharp the turn, floated along at unearthly speeds, and most importantly, nearly caused many accidents as people stopped to rubberneck it.

Yeah. Nice.

I know little to nothing about Ferraris, but they are probably quite nice too. But as has been pointed out previously, whatever you decide, it can't be red. Sorry.

Definately.
The only curves that look good in red are <a href="http://www.geocities.com/kellylebrock2/pictures.html" target="_blank">these</a>

Micah = Vanquish level class!
I completely concur with your post Micah, and I applaud Nelson for his achievements. I really do.

If I may take a moment here. My brother is very close to millionaire status. He is a financial planner and president of his own company. He is the top salesman in the country for one insurance company. He's the 5th top salesman in the world for another. He owns 4 vehicles and a garage big enough to house them all.

a gold Jaguar convertible
a black Lexus
a white Saab convertible
and a black Ford Explorer I think it is?

He also owns a qtr million dollar home in an affluent neighborhood and owns a townhouse in Naples, Florida. He travels for fun, more than he works and you can find him on a golf course quicker than you will find him in his office.

Why do I brag about my brother and why do I feel proud? Because my family was poor and my brother made a name for himself. He has never forgotten his roots and treats his high school friends as well as he does his own family. I remember back when he drove a beater boat of a car and would borrow $1.25 from me to put gas in it. He's come a very long way since then and I could not be more proud.

So to you, Nelson. Way to kick some ass! Be proud of your accomplishments! Pretty soon, you can buy BOTH!

But unfortunately, to reiterate, neither car can be red.

Though candy pink is doable. Well, probably not for you, since you probably have a completely irrational prejudice about driving a bright pink car, but it would suit me.

In Cambridge there was this Volkswagon Beetle I'd see driving around, and it was the pinkest pink you've ever seen, some kind of pearly custom job.

And it was really pretty (sighs).

For your fanny magnets, I would consider blue or green. Or yellow. Yellow can be striking.

That sort of juice is gonna put my ass on this though... <img src="http://westcoastchoppers.com/images/bikes/dragon/a.gif" alt="" />

See that colour would rock...

Even cranberry or violet would do.

Well, as one of the original critics, let me respond.

I didn't post what I did because I think his decision to buy a car that expensive is wrong per se. Whether that's a wise and appropriate use of what resources he has is up to him. I'm not anti-wealth and I certainly don't think he needs to be ashamed of what he's earned or owned.

That said, I stand by my post. These internet message boards cloak people in a mix of anonymity and partial identity-fiction. It seems like half the people are trying to be someone other than who they are, and the other half should be trying to be someone other than who they are, if their posts are any indication.

You've got to know your audience. Asking for advice about home theater equipment, movies or computer-related things is something that people around here know something about; it's why they've come to this site and it's within their experience. This sort of purchase is a wholly different thing. Almost no one here has any experience with or knowledge about these cars, and thus there's little potential for Nelson to really learn anything about these cars here. With a scant hope for learning anything new, this just looks like bragging.

I mean, I certainly hope he's not going to let the decision about how to spend six figures on a car be affected by what FreddyLuvva32 has to say about their relative babe-magnetism.

If it weren't so tacky I'd offer to make out with you Russell, you sexy intelligent beast.

Apart from this forum, I sought for advice in forums dedicated to said cars. Answers here and there were very similar.

And I do know my audience. Maybe you underestimated their knowledge. Read the responses.

Kronos mentioned the problems with the Ferrari undercaridge. DJ Dylan in the past has mentioned the pros of the Porsche. Others mentioned the plus and the minuses of each car, while others suggested something else (the Vanquish, and the Mercedes SL55 AMG were very good).

In fact, I'm leaning towards the Porsche after begining this thread leaning towards the Maranello. I took advice from both sides (people that don't own them and people that do own them), and probably will save myself up to $70,000.

FreddyLuvva32's advice was good.

Dude, bad decision. You should totally go for the Ferrarri.

I've solved your problem. Buy
<a href="http://www.dealsonwheels.com/search/detailbig.cfm/Autos__ID/000073-200306-000087" target="_blank">this</a> and <a href="http://www.dealsonwheels.com/search/detailbig.cfm/Autos__ID/23420ca" target="_blank">this</a> and you'll still have enough money left over to pay off my, I mean your, student loans.

Whatever you do, do it before you settle down and have kids. Priorities shift and money doesn't seem to go as far as it used to.

Life's short, have fun with your dough.

I would advise going with the Porche. Kronos is very correct when he tells you that the ferrari is not that great under the hood. The porche will be a better all around car as it will run longer with out significant maintenance. Also, both cars are expensive to maintian, but the ferrari much moreso.

These are the kind of cars you get if you are an enthusiast. You don't get these for a few years, then dump it. I want to get a Porche someday, but I also intend to keep it until the day I'm swimming with the daisies. So get the one you want to define your image forever, but don't get the Ferrari.

Also, the GT2 is very fast, but there are plenty of cheap cars now that are only about 1 to 1.5 seconds behind it in the 0-60 run so speed should not be that big a factor anymore. It's all about style. The evo VIII may be nipping at a porche's heels, but it'll never be as respectable.

Sure I've never driven a Porsche or a Ferrari, but I've done my research. Just see my posts, but I also warned Nelson that I am an avid Porsche fan.

And I think Nelson has a whole lot of potential for learning about these cars way before he ever steps into a dealer's lot and starts driving them.

Also, I'd like to add. That when you buy a car of this caliber and craftsmanship, these cars tend to age like fine wine, but they must be treated well. And I guarantee you that if you ever decide to sell the car in 10, 15, even 5 years from now, I'm sure you will get a nice chunk of change.

And for GAC who mentioned the EVO, do not even touch that car. It has a big ass turbo that just reeks of high maintenance and low life. I mean, 19 PSI on a 2.0 liter engine! eek!

P.S. The GT2 is in a VERY limited release, something like 100 a year. So expect the price to go up as the demand goes up.
Hubris' suggestion of a carrera 4S is also a very nice choice. The GT2 is faster, but most people on the road cannot tell the difference between the two, though not to say that the 4S is any less of a car. You get porche quality and speed for a fraction of the price. The GT2's performance margin doesn't really justify it's increase in price unless you're a rapper looking to show off.

As much as I've always believed the Sun rises and sets on Stuttgart lemme tellya...a combination stable of a really custom motorcycle and a dark blue 350-Z would be optimum.

But if money were no object I'd still like to have a Porsche GT1(yes, that one), a Porsche 962(made barely street legal), or a Viper GTS-R.

The other "Let me make less of you because you have more than me" answers were as predictable as the fact that night follows day, but I guess you all have learned to ignore the "negative, we will never amount to anything spazmoids."

Hmmm, no. That's not why I raised a complaint. I didn't see any evidence of Nelson taking any kind of Responsibility to go along with the money. He has since IM'ed me to clear that up, and if he wants to buy a fancy car, he has earned the right for some first dynamic fun. What you never tell anyone when you go on rants like this is what you do with your money outside of having fun with it. I guess if people were wanting to, they could find out from some of your waaaay older posts. Nelson doesn't have THAT level of responsibility just yet, but his PM has shown me that he is on his way to something big and life-changing (aside from owning a fine automobile).

Sorry for making assumptions Nelson. I have been having fun Playing my Game and went off on you unneccessarily. I don't agree with most of what you have to say politically, but you are not a selfish prick.

Nelson, I implore you, buy a Honda and install an aftermarket exhaust system SO noisy, it sounds like God himself is farting.
