Is it just me or is this a continued thing around here: people jumping into threads and obviously not reading what other people have posted?

To me it's related to something I see in a lot of movie "discussion" threads - people popping in to unleash their "review" of the film in question, but to not talk about it. Maybe there should be a "your reviews" section? Then the people who want to actually talk about a movie will have a thread to themselves.

Goddamn, if Devin brings up a point, a valid one most of the time, the whole thread turns into how much people hate him, or they just turn into idiots.

And maybe a "your reviews" section would be nice, but I sure wouldn't read it.

The problem with a "Your Reviews" forum is that people would still post in the Sewer discussions thinking that their reviews were actual contributions to the discussion.

Hey, I used to post in the "Your Reviews" forum - basically, just to keep my writing skills from completely deteriorating into Netspeak-ese, if someone read it, it was a bonus.

Very true - though the thing is that sometimes reviews ARE actual contributions to the discussion, if the person offers a different take on the film.

Too often, they are just regurgitating what 5-10-100 people have ALREADY said, particularly on the big event films. If I post my "thoughts" on a film, I try to read through and touch on one or two things no one else noticed/mentioned. And I usually don't post my "thoughts" if the thread is past the first page and a half/two pages.

I agree with him, but I'd take his point more seriously if he wasn't constantly ignoring people in movie discussion threads, and constantly asking other chewers "who they are."

Because, obviously, if they don't write for the main page, or haven't posted enough to drive him crazy, they're meaningless and so is their point of view.

Except no one knew if Dev's shit was off line or not, and there's a bunch of Chud people who also post over there, so it saved time. Jsut the same, it makes me think

A) Diva closed the thread
and
B) Her motives were not just maintaining order

But saying such might get this thread closed.

I like being told what I can and cannot talk about.

Chud is a community. Something happened to a member of that community. People were curious, but the thread got locked, perhaps a bit prematurely. Locking threads down often comes across as someone exerting power for the sake of it. Whereas if the subjects been discussed out, generally the thread will die on its own or move on to another perhaps interesting topic. If you, Diva, felt it should have been moved to Shameless links, then you should have done it. Then this whole conversation might have been avoided. But closing the thread makes it come across as another episode in the "Diva doesn't like Devin" chapter of Chud.

Nelson's thread was about Nelson, the person. He was asking advice about what to do with some money he came into. Verbal's thread was about a site, not a member of CHUD. He wasn't asking about you.

There is a clear difference.

In addition, there is a thread in Shameless that is specifically about your site. It would be perfectly acceptable for people to talk about the site there.

Also, this isn't even a Diva/Devin problem. Well, maybe it is, but I just think it's silly to lock topics because someone has deemed them to be finished. Let the community decide what's relevant and what isn't.

Star Chamber should be on the lookout for threads that need to be (a) moved or (b) removed because they harmed the community.

This thread certainly doesn't fall under (b), and it must not be (a) either since Diva didn't move it.

The only thing "wrong," is that it wasn't clearly specified that the thread was inappropriate to begin with. The fact that is was closed was quite appropriate.
