Can we call a moratorium on...

thread topics that cross over from the subject line into the message? I know I've been guilty of this in the past, but it doesn't really support good communication. I like to open threads I'm interested in posting to; I don't really like trying to guess what's on the other side of those "...". Okay, sometimes I do like to guess, but it's still not very helpful. I'll stop it if others will.

I'm just trying to improve the boards in a small little tiny insignificant way for all of us.

Can't say I disagree too much here, despite occasionally doing this wink

I really don't think...

...it's that big of a deal.

It does bother me a bit.

Yes, because the quality of posts will increase with the destruction of the elipse...

This is far and away the strangest thing I have ever seen anyone complain about on CHUD.

so you've seen <a href="http://chuddotcom.nexcess.net/board/ubbhtml/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=66;t=000798" target="_blank">this?</a>

I usually stay away from Hatah topics, but I will go read it to protect my statement above.

No Dave, now that I've read some of that topic, this topic is still the strangest. The topic you linked to wins the square for being the most retarded.

Yet this thread title violates the proposed moratorium.

Fascinating.

I think he did that on purpose, silly.

Ludwig, I think the point he's getting at is that he's tired of clicking on ambiguous titles just to find out it's not a subject he's interested in. Not everyone has fast access, and some of these threads take awhile to load.
If I read him correctly, he's just requesting a touch more relevence between what's in the title & what's in the thread, as opposed to:

Don't you hate it when....
...people are stupid?

I went to the mall today....
...and saw this really cool preview for a film!

My left sock...
....got left at this girl's house....

etc, ad naseum.

If it's an issue of speed, what's next? No images allowed in threads? As far as relevance goes, how often does this actually happen? Not very. At least not in the forums that matter. I make it a point to stay mostly out of the Chewers and Political forums.

This is not a gestapo movement, it's a request by a chewer to other chewers (at least, that's how I read it. I don't think he was asking for an official crackdown, merely a request for others to be a bit more forthcoming it what the hell they started the thread about. This trend towards the titles being exceedingly vague is a relatively recent thing. It's always been there, yes, but it's become almost the default setting in the last couple of months. My personal feelings are thus: I kinda agree with him, but it's not that big a deal. Hell, he doesn't even seem to make it that big a deal. Ironically, it's the people against the idea that seem to be less laid back about it. wink )

(*smirk* I tend to be laid back about most things, ever since the great big Will incident where I embaressed myself.)

This idea was not meant to be a big deal or a way to call out people who are doing something wrong. There's nothing really wrong going on. I just wanted to make a suggestion that would benefit the boards. For me, it's more than trying to avoid threads that don't interest me, I think I'm probably missing out on a few that would be interesting but I don't click through to see what it's about if the subject line isn't specific.

I enjoy the CHUD message boards so much because I don't really need to go to other sites to discuss the wide range of topics that interest me. Everything is right here, including the wit and intelligence that I've come to expect from Chewers in general. Maybe my input isn't needed in this case, but I didn't think it would do any harm to make a suggestion.

And I won't be threatening to stop watching movies if The Core makes big bank, so please for the love of Homer Simpson don't lump me into that wingnut group. Thanks.
