I am considering this as a profession and would like to hear your thoughts and experiences.

You know how much highschool students hate most of their students. Can you deal with all that hate?

I will hopefully be teaching private school out west, or ideally, at my alma mater, where teachers and students formed a life-long bond. I still keep in close contact with them to this day.

But it's four years off anyway, I'm just wondering if anyone here has experience in the field and would be willing to share their stories.

I say go for it. The world always needs more teachers.

But, you must learn patience. Thats all that gets me thru some of my days.

If you are at a private school though, chances are pretty good the discipline and administration will be better than what my wife and I deal with it.

You'll never have another late night (because of schoolwork) in college ever again. Perhaps the easiest major possible. That's a positive.

I don't know if I want to switch majors, though. I love teaching, or the experience that I have had with it, and want to explore it further, but to do that I would have to leave the art school I am in right now.

Being a teacher means YOU have homework every night for the rest of your life. If think you would enjoy reading 20 poorly written ten-page essays over a weekend, then you have found the correct profession.

That also depends on what and where you want to teach. If you are willing to move, there are a LOT of states that are desparate for teachers. If you're flexible you can get away without having an education major.

English or Mass Media, hopefully somewhere out west, like Colorado, or somewhere in New England, like Maine.

I work with groups primarily made up of high school honor societies and of charter school students. When I work with these people I am encouraged that there might be a fine next generation.

Brenden, work in a charter school if you do.
