Future Chewers who now only read the boards

This is a message to all the future chewers out there!

These are the girls and boys that check out the site everyday, and then read all the posts in the message board but haven't signed up to become official Chewers. I know you are out there because I was one of you. I didn't sign up for the boards until Sept. 2002, but I read the message boards daily for months before that. Since then, I've gained a wealth of film knowledge from asking questions and partaking in some sweet discusion on every topic imaginable.

So please, if you are someone with the ability to contribute movie and other info, PLEASE sign up. Put your first post in here and let me know that you've finally jumped over onto our side of the fence.

Shills need not apply.

This is not my first post, but up until about a week ago I would certainly have qualify as a "long-time reader, first-time poster". I've been reading these boards off and on for quite some time. I'm not sure exactly how long it has been, but I saw the first posts of folks like Cheese Biscuits and Verbal, read of Devin's departure and triumphant return, and have seen the main page go through two (if I remember correctly) major redesigns.

Reading these pages is tremendously entertaining. Sometimes they read like a truly enlightening collection of film criticism, often they come across as the most melodramatic of soap operas. Both facets of the board are amusing. I've taken movie advice off these boards (particularly from folks like Poxy and Carl) on more then one occasion. I am fond of following the... passionate... debates that fill he politics board. Whether or not these are the best boards on the net, they are certainly the most enjoyable to read.

Just thought I'd take this opportunity to formally introduce myself. Though I'm going to have little free time in the coming months, I hope to post every now and again.

I read the site for almost two years before I ventured into the boards. Now that I think about it I have no idea why. All I had to do was click on a link but I just never did it.

Good to have you aboard Al Manheim. I'm pulling you all out of the cracks.

I read the board for about a year until I registered in February. Everytime I was thinking about joining, I'd see a new person come in and say the wrong thing and get their ass handed to them. It kind of scared me away. So eventually I got over it and decided to just register and avoid drama on the boards, which is what I do in my life too.

I'm glad that I waited a year because it gave me a feel for what everyone here is like. And I think I pick up on a lot of the inside jokes and references that I otherwise wouldn't have noticed.

The only downside to having waited so long is that I feel like I've know a lot of you for a year or so but to yall I'm just one of the new people.

I read the boards for about 6 months or so before I finally registered. I was posting a lot on AICN before then, but it sucked. I checked this one out and liked it and started reading here. There are so many threads it's hard to know what's going on sometimes.

But to anyone who's reading but not yet posting, I'd say come on in, the water's fine. It's more fun when you're contributing.

I read the site for a couple of years before i ever even looked at the boards. I never posted anywhere, but then late last year decided to give it a try and I love it here. That's why all this high school shit (he looked at me! make him stop touching me!) pisses me off because I don't want it to effect the boards I have grown to love so much. But now every day, I check the news (as I have for almost 3 years now) and then come onto the boards to chat. It's a daily thing now (sometimes three or four times daily)

Advisement recieved. I have joined and now plan on staying around for a while.

(actually I registered a bit ago but only posted one or two times.. but now I am starting to read more and get familiar with who's who around here and so on.. I like the place, might as well say what I have if anything comes along.)
Cool. I have officially recruited someone!

The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee. That means YOUR DEAD!

Now what exactly happened here after the dust cleared?

Cause now Anya's gone! Everyone can die in one thread!!!!

I dunno, but I think we need to track forum posts down to the second instead of the minute. I wonder if my BANG post came before your "kill" edit.

Maybe we both killed each other while Anya shot at two corpses.

I've been reading CHUD and the message boards for over 3 years now. I just recently found my password after my old e-mail account got deactivated. So, I guess I'm back.
i guess this is only my second post. i've been reading the site for quite a while and have been lurking the boards, but am a little weary of just jumping into discussions, especially when so many users have been so active for so long. i've been active in some other boards in the past, but have grown a little tired of them.

anyhow, i see a ton of movies and have plenty to say about them. any advice to a newbie as to easy ways to get active?

When I first got here, I fucked up by starting too many new threads, and it pissed a few people off. I sat back and waited at least a month before I started any more new threads, just so I could get a feel for the boards and what has already been posted in the various forums. So that would be my advice--Don't run around like Dumb Zod or Jaro Borano, starting fifteen new threads a day. Read everything, think about what you've read, and try to add something that's either funny or intelligent to the conversation. Do that, and people will take note of your posts.

Welcome, by the way. Good to have you.

Okay! Okay! I'll stop lurking now. I promise. You know, you'll drag me kicking and screaming onto this board, and then you'll never get me to shut up. Is that what you want? Oh. Okay then.

Welcome to all the newer posters! Looks like most of you have settled in just fine.

DarkHedgehog, Coyote was one of the first people to welcome me here, so please allow me to do the same for you. Welcome, aboard!

I used to post at AICN for awhile, but lately the Talkbacks there have descended into complete bedlam. It used to be quite a crazy, spirited place full of cool tangents and vitirol. Now it's all kneejerk negativity and esoteric nonsense. Maybe it will get back on track once the Summer movies give people something to talk about again.

I came here not too long ago. Quite frankly, I used to find these boards dull. A lot of gladhandling towards the CHUD guys and shallow posts ("This movie rocked" "Yes it did" "I agree"). Maybe I was just reading the wrong threads, but I like coming here now.
One of my first posts triggered a fight between Nick and myself. It ended with him locking the topic. I've been having fun ever since.
