Upping Your Member Rating at Chud

In my short time at Chud, this is what I have found...

Will NOT get you more stars: Admitting that you are highly amused by Jamie Kennedy in a wig and a wedding dress

WILL get you a star: Saying something blasphemous about "Brazil" and about John Cusak ( that took me from one star to two).

I don't claim to know my way around here or anything, just thought I'd share.

I've found that a good way to increase your rating is by giving the Chewer a lap dance... and it's seriously hard seeing how the Chewer doesn't have a lap...

Oh no, I'm not saying that people hate John Cusak, or "Brazil". In fact, those are highly regarded around here, I'm just saying that I got a shocked reaction, that I was going to Hell and all that, and then I got some votes.

Shockingly, some do though...

Nick might say the way to up your rating is to talk about movies, share your thoughts and act like there is no rating system.

I would agree.

Though I tend to muck around the board, proclaiming everyone's right to free opinion, stopping every two months to get my feelings profoundly hurt, only a day or two later to apologize for retaliation.

Most of the time, I stay in line. Somehow I got 5 stars out of it...

That's spelled "Aaliyah".

What I don't understand is how Clarence Beaks has a four.

Oddly enough, my rating dipped when I began talking politics. Go figure.
Mine was at four after Attack of the Clones came out, and then jumped back up later. I'm pulling for ya, Beaks, but I had you rated a five a long long time ago, so there's nothing I can do.
I'm toying with the idea of giving Beaks a 5-star vote out of pity, just for being in Wyoming.
I'll give you a five if you give Beaks a 5.

You do understand that is a movie reference right?

But hell, give Beaks a five anyway, cause Beaks rocks.
I thought it might be, but didn't recognize it so I went with the dumb Wyoming joke.
And now back to four. It was fun while it lasted. I can't help but wonder if it was my post in this very thread that led to someone putting me down a notch.

Fitting, I guess.
I couldn't get 5 stars if I paid for 'em, so I just turned my member rating off. Now, it's not an issue.
Logan,

I just threw you and Beaks a five.

Cheers!

This no longer has much to do with this thread, but I really did dislike "Brazil", because it was the most depressing film I have ever seen. I was depressed for days after I saw it. I saw people were crying quietly in the audience when the lights came on. I really can't stand John Cusak in any film except for "Being John Malkovich". For some reason, I liked him in that film.

Ironic, since I think it's actually one of the most hopeful films ever made.

Help! Help! I'm being repressed!

I have to feel sorry for anyone from Wyoming. I passed through the state this year and it was depressing. No trees were ever seen except a handful planted near a factory probably to keep enviromentalist off their backs. Also I saw a sign along the highway that was about 7 feet long and 4 feet tall reading in big bold letters "Micorsurgery Vesectomy Reversal. Money Back Guarentee."
No, I'm not really from Wyoming -- just a fan of UNFORGIVEN who adores it all out of proportion.

Thanks to all who gave me 5's. They've been returned in kind (likewise, Andre, you already had one).
Aw, Clarence, now you're makin' me blush.

My original post was quite flippant, and I certainly don't expect anyone to know how to influence their own rating. It's interesting how a thread can develop. I see talk about values and feelings here. That does happen sometimes.
What is the point of a ratings system in a discussion board?
I'm actually still befuddled as to how the whole thing works. Do the blue stars indicate your rating, or the white ones? Do I have five stars or none?
Ray, you have 5 stars. It's the "dark green" or "blue" colored stars that you look at.
Oh, ok. Well, I guess that's pretty good, eh?
It's hella good, Ray.

However, I have 18 votes and you have 3 votes. That means that I am far superior than you are. Plus I just rated you so, from my perspective, you actually have only 2 votes. Neener neener.

I just noticed JWinge's question. I guess it's like Consumer Reports magazine. You check someone's member rating and if they have numerous votes and a high rating, then you must believe them. Take me, for example. I say that the world is rectangle, you must then believe me because I have 5 stars!

Thanks for the explanation. It just seems like getting good ratings is a priority to others when I couldn't care less. But now it makes more sense, so I appreciate the knowledge.
If everyone likes you, you can't be that interesting. I mean, unless it's the Butt Smooch vote like Nick and SJR get.
All I know is, I'd signed up about a year ago any only had one single vote to my name until I started picking on Lord of the Rings. If you want lots of votes real fast, that's a good way to get them.
Does it really matter all that much how many stars you have?

*prepares for a flurry of 1's*
All I know is I have had a good rating for a long time.

See, that last comment prevented me from giving you one star. The usual critique of Cusack is he always plays the same character, which is bullshit.

It's weird how different he was in that film.
It's interesting that just because I posted a cocky reply in this thread, someone gave me a 1 star. Since I had 18 stellar votes, his/her/it's plan has not succeeded. Muahahahaha!

I'm really asking for it, ain't I?

What happens if you get a certain number of stars? Do you win valuable cash prizes?
