Happy Thanksgiving, movie geeks!

Figured I'd start the inevitable holiday cheer thread. I've already started the deviled eggs, and the turkey is marinating as we speak.

I hope all you assholes have a terrific and safe Turkey Day.

And to the chewers from places that don't celebrate Thanksgiving: neener neener neener.

Yeah, Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.

If any of you chewers are going to be in the Atlanta area on Thanksgiving and have no plans, please see my thread in the Atlanta forum for an open invite to feast and gorge.

Cheese Biscuits raped my childhood!

but Happy Thanksgiving anyway!

Jacob, what kind of marinade are you using? And can I have a deviled egg or two?
Right now I'm at work with my thumb squarely up my ass as I wait for the honchos to say "Hey, Everybody, get the fuck out of here" so I can go home and get better at Vice City.

Happy Tukey Day, my brother and sister geeks.

Rath, sorry you feel the way you do about the holidays. I can hazard a guess as to why you feel that way, but it really doesn't matter what the reason is. Here's my recommendation anyway: follow what the day is supposed to be about, and focus on the positive. There are things for you to be thankful about. There are other things that need fixing in your life. Plan for those steps forward in the coming year.

It's an apple brandy vinaigrette, with chunks of granny smith apples to boot.

And of course you can have some deviled eggs. I use a little red pepper flake in 'em, so they have just the teensiest bit of spice...

Is it because you can't go home?

Nice marinade! I bet it adds a tasty sweetness to the big-ass bird. My father-in-law uses some kind of mild cayenne mix. I'm not a big fan of spicy stuff, but I'll be damned if it isn't the best turkey I've ever had.

On your deviled eggs: do you use regular mayo or Miracle Whip? I like the miracle whip- gives just a little bit more zest to the mix.

Is it lunchtime yet?

I like mayo better, but Miracle Whip does make a nice sexual lubricant.

(Altogether now: Eeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwww!)

Andre, I was thinking that might be Rath's predicament ... and I'll tell you, the first Thanksgiving away from home, when I was on my own, was actually one of my fondest Thanksgivings. I reveled in my growing up, stepping out, becoming independent, beginning my own adult life, starting my own traditions, setting my own path.

In many respects, this Thanksgiving will be a similar one.

happy thanksgiving. enjoy your turkey, and for you vegetarians, enjoy your tofukey.

We don't celebrate it round these parts, but Happy Thanksgiving to the bunch of you nonetheless.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Part of me wants to go home, yes, but the larger part of it is that I have a shitload of work to do over the short break, and my family is coming in and they want me to spend time with them. That isn't bad in of itself, but it's going to be a long couple of days. I was up until five this morning doing laundry because my roomates spilled beer all over my clothes and sheets, and I'm probally going to be up again tonight. Anyway, I thank you for your kind comments. Happy Thanksgiving, and like Johnny Butane says, don't go shopping on Friday.

BTW...much of that work consists of watching every Scorsese and Coen Bros. film I can get my hands on..so I really shouldn't be complaining, right? Especially since I've never seen Casino, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Miller's Crossing, Raising Arizona, Blood Simple, OR The Big Lebowski...

I've missed most of those m'self. Try and enjoy buddy. That kind of homework don't come every day.

Yet again, another thread gets taken over by a "poor me" rath story.

Things always work out rath, don't stress. You'll just make things worse.

For everyone else, Happy Turkey Day!

And for all the Jews, Happy Hannukah! (I won't be posting much this weekend so wanted to get that in there.)

Funny, that's my Thanksgiving resolution.
Happy Thanksgiving my fellow geeks. You all have more to be thankful for than you can even imagine. But try. It makes the holiday worth it.

I raise a glass to you all.

Just about to get out of here. Last night I baked an apple/pumpkin pie, and tonight I have to bake cornbread (to be turned into dressing tomorrow) and sweet potato soufle, defrost and brine the 19 lb turkey, and generally get things prepared. Might also drop by The Great Satan and rent a copy of that extended LotR DVD thingy to watch after turkey. Hope you all have a fun time, hope you're able to spend it with a higher percentage of your family than I, and I'll see ya on Monday!
hey, happy thanksgiving to all...everybody be sure to eat your weight in turkey, i know i will, and then just sit in front of the boob-tube and enjoy DVD bliss...

Happy Turkey Day, Chewers, I am thankful for you all!

Happy Turkey Day. I am grateful for the day. A friend of mind is coming in from out of town that I don't get to visit with very often. It will be nice to see her again.

It's been a strange week for me both here and otherwise. The recent attack on our own by Facer, a guy who rivals "The Burning Moon" in terms of value, and a good friend's loss of his father(which pissed me off even more when I read what I read on that site. If that is true Nick, then I am sorry for your loss...no matter how long ago it happened).

So, I propose we eat as much as we can(I, the hapless vegetarian I am will be eating TOFURKEY!-it's awesome!), have a few drinks, and be merry! "Two Towers" is less than a month away!

Here's to the chewers!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

This is the only bit of "me" time I will have the entire day, so I wanted to pop in and wish you all a safe and happy holiday!

The relatives will be invading the premises in just a few short hours so I'm taking some time out to say hello, tell ya's to eat hardy, party hardier and recoop with some great film to top off that pie..fur or otherwise. Heh..

I got up at 4:00 and made my famous sausage, cranberry and water chestnut stuffing and stuffed the 21 lb. bird, I did.

Hello to Will, again! Saw you about, bro.

Nick, I read the slam thread and the link. Fuck him. He ain't worth the time or the energy. You rock. Your site rocks. 'Nuff said.

To all the people from CHUD hooking up today, we want pictures! Have a great time together!

To those of you that have no special plans, remember that you have family here and it's always great to see you about. I'd have invited you all to Chicago, but I haven't been able to get back here until this morning. You are all in my heart and prayers.

Enjoy the day everyone, and above all, give thanks for the little things. They'll mean more in the long run than you and I will ever know.

Much love to each and every one of you.

Kathy

As I wind-up a difficult year, I'm thankful for a lot. One of the top at the list is CHUD and the friends, met and yet-unmet, that are in these parts.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Gobble gobble.
And to you as well, Matt. It's years like this that both challenge one's thankfulness and confirm that which one should be eternally thankful.

I never take Thanksgiving lightly anymore. It used to be all about family being in the way. Now it's all about Family sometimes being all you have.

Hug your children. Happy Thanksgiving EveryChewer!

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

I am taking Xymog's advice to heart and going it on my own today -- no big dinner, no large gathering, just hanging with some brews and some football and being grateful. A year ago I was laid off and not sure where I was going, and while things aren't ideal right now, they're miles better than where I was then. And the past year has seen friends and family make it through safe and sound.

Happy Thanksgiving, and hopefully all of you have as much to be thankful for.

Happy Thanksgiving, people. May the time that you spend with your families be enjoyed by all.
