The thing is, if these message boards were ONLY for movies, Nick or Micah or who ever has the right to shut the other topics down and regulate all postings to movies would/could do so.
Isn't it better to go to this online community and seek out the threads that politics can be discussed/personal attacks can be discussed/etc. than to have a movie thread turn into a flame war?
If these other topic threads didn't exist, then most of the movie related threads would turn into battles, and I don't think anyone would want that.
At least now, we can post in movie threads, knowing that in another thread a flame war will be happening, but the current thread you are in might actually be civil.
The grudges would bleed into the movie threads and then everyone of the threads here would be tainted.
If a thread bothers you, don't bother with it. Everyone has the right to post wherever they want, but we also have the responsibility, all of us, to try to act like civil human beings here.
If some of us said some of the things we say to each other on the message boards in real life, we'd have our faces cut off and fed to us.
I like the community aspect of the message boards and the freedoms it allows.
Oh, and Devin, I get the feeling that I'd probably be grouped in with the people you don't like on the message boards, but for the record, I enjoy your work on CHUD, and even checked out your website, but everyone has their opinions of other chewers, but isn't it better to have all the personal fighting in another forum than in the movie threads? It's gonna happen no matter what, wouldn't it be better to try and localize it?
