got laid off today...

So out of nowhere my boss tells me that business is slow and they are having to cut jobs. I guess they didn't want to let go of any of the new people they just hired. Apparently they wanted to let go of the people who made the most money, even though those of us who made the most have been there the longest. Fuckin' SUCKS!
Damn, really sorry to hear that.

I'm familiar with the feeling. Just when you think you've maneuvered yourself into a position where you are indispensible, reality clocks you upside the head.

With a dead elk, no less..

*hugs*

We both know they'll be regretting that decision in a few weeks when the new staff is bumbling around like idiots. Oh well. You have my condolences, Casey.

Casey, I am really sorry about the lay off. I hope you find another job soon, and you will be in my thoughts.

Take care,
purple

I have been there, and I know how you are feeling. I will be thinking about you.

Sounds like an ass-backwards business to me. See it as an opportunity, not a problem. You can finally pursue your dream career in zoological artificial insemination.

That had nothing to do with it at all, Seahawk.
It's just the way things worked out

*offers chocolate*

BTW....take the unemployment. Some people think there's a stigma involved with that...there isn't.
It's their loss. Collect un-employment and lay around for a few days. Enjoy life, and when you're ready, find a better job...If you need us, we're here for you, man.
Sorry, Casey. It blows, sure, but it could turn into something fantastic. As they say (and you know who they are) when one door closes...another one opens.

Best of luck to you!
Shit. Good luck man!
That does suck. Sorry to hear that.

I made the mistake of leaving my job last May, and I have been looking for work ever since. Right now I am substituting in the Austin School District to earn some extra money.

I hope you find something quicker than I have. This economy just sucks ass.
That sucks. But if their keeping untrained new employees over already-trained veteran employees, someone in management obviously has their head up their ass.
You'll bounce back, bud, I'm sure of it...
That sucks man. Do you have any ideas about where you're gonna look for a new job? Im sure you'll be able to find somewhere to work. Sorry to hear that you got laid off.
That's a shame. That happened to me a couple of years back. Like everyone has said take a day or two off to relax, take the unemployment, and then treat the job hunt like a job. What are your skills? If it's technical then I can recommend Teksystems as a good headhunter organization. They placed me quickly. Here's a link to their CA offices. http://www.teksystems.com/offices/ca.asp

Funny you should ask. I just talked to a former employer today who I speak to once in a blue moon, and guess what? He has an opening doing what I used to do (mail room/file clerk) and asked me if I was interested. I asked him when he needed me to start, he said tomorrow but I told him I needed a few days off to catch up with my DVD watching. So he said what about Tuesday? So that's when I start. So I have a nice 6 day weekend, then back to work I go. Thanks for all the support guys.

That's great!
Excellent! Hope the new employers are good guys. Best of luck dude.
You really said that about the DVD watching?

Cool. And well done.

make sure that you go through their mail though...
Damn, that was quick.
Apparently, the secret is CHUD. If we could bottle this....

Of course I did man. I watched disc 1 of the FOTR EE DVD on Monday night, need to finish that up. As well as watch American History X and whatever else may strike my fancy

that's great news about the new position, but sorry to hear about getting laid off. one of my friends in my workplace just got laid off with some other people. it sent a very negative shockwave through the department. i hope this economy picks itself up soon.
So we can't call you and order bats at this one...

Good to hear! Kick some butt for us!
Wow, by the time I was done reading this thread the issue was resolved. Congratulations, Casey72! I hope all goes well with your new position.
