I don't believe this is a viable solution. I know you don't mean it as such, but I view such an action as being a bit too elitist. Segregation, if you catch my drift.

Having run boards with an abnormally high number of obnoxious, ahem, "fuckfires", I've found that the best solution is to simply supply the offending parties with a to-the-point email, followed by a swift smack of the banstick following repeated offenses.

Now granted, I'm sure Nick doesn't have the time/desire to pursue this, which is where I think your suggestion of more mods would come into play.

Of course, this is coming from someone who has been known to have obnoxious/mischievious streaks, so take that as you will.

Which is with very few exceptions EXACTLY what these Newbies are doing. There are very few of them which seem to know the rules or have any interest in learning the ropes.

The whole elitist thing is sorta required for CHUD. Because that's how it is. You learn the rules of posting, you learn the rules of searching for the thread that fits, you learn to use the forumns responsibly, then we can talk.

Now, this is not meant directly at anyone that's posted here or ever will. It's just a general thing. All the threads that are in the Chewer forumn, you know the ones that clog it up. The "Here's a new thread!" or "Another thread with nothing really to talk about in it!" or "Here's a thread!".

Kiteless, I'll take you personally to task. There are a ton of threads you FLOODED the chewer forumn with. And what was the point? Humor? Hilarity? Perhaps. But it clogs. It's disprectful and uncalled for.

Now, some will say I'm telling you how to post. Perhaps I am. But I'm also saying this isn't a place where you can do whatever you want, post whatever you want. You can do that, but within reason. It's not a free for all. It costs money. It takes time to close threads, keep track of all the less then smart ones and lock them.

I guess I get cranked when people get all up in arms about how the "old school" creates division. Perhaps it does. But that's how Chud is. Create threads that DO something, not that you made just to have fun or clog the threads, cause it wasn't you intention. But you're doing it anyway.

Perhaps self control? I don't know. Purple, I'll be very open with you. Your thread contributed to it. But so did Kiteless and countless others. HELL, I've posted stupid stuff in threads before.

How about we try and keep this place clean and respected?

I did think this was suppose to be a family and not a "earn your rank" kind of board. From the way some of the older posters are acting, it is all about post count here and how long you have been here. Fine, so be it. I don't think there is one person on this board that is any better than the next. Post count means nothing to me, nor how long a person has been here. If people want to clique like that, fine. I don't care.

This place has been somewhere I come to unwind, but the board is becoming like two different sectors. This is not what a family is suppose to be.

This stuff reminds me of something I've always felt was odd about Chud; especially during awards show coverage. The site has a link to a web-based chat client where people can hurl pointless one-liners back and forth or comment on the latest snub, but it's so rarely used.

Many of the more pointless for the sake of pointless threads play out just like a goofy online chat log, as do the sometimes site-crippling running commentary threads on awards shows. Now, I'll admit that Dalnet isn't the most stable place to hold a rambunctious discussion (or even a mild one at times) but going that route means it doesn't cost Nick a dime (as far as I know.)

Maybe there's just more of an exhibitionist streak in most chewers than I possess. It just seems like a lot of this stuff would be better served, and would probably even be more fun, in the chat room.

Now I'm going to skulk back into lurkitude. Thanks for your patience...

Seahawk, by the way, this is the first time I have ever been disrespectful to a Chewer, since I have been here. I admit I spoke my mind with grim and Devin. That's the first time I have ever been the least bit rude toward anyone on this board. I have read some posts on this board that have horrified me. I ignored them.
