Yes, I have, 4 years in the Army (1996-2000). I worked mostly in satellite communications for the 3rd Infantry Division, 123rd Signal Batallion located in Ft. Stewart, GA. to be exact (yes, the same one running across Iraq right now). I met my wife there, who was a part of my company but in a different platoon. She was deployed to Afghanistan for around six months at one point, thankfully seeing no action. I myself have had been deployed twice, to Egypt both times for multi-national war exercises. Thankfully, I didn't see "live" action, although the exercises were enough to scare the piss out of you from time to time. It really puts into perspective as to how serious war is. As awestruck as I am by the war (i've always been intrigued by war, not in a "GO GO KILL EM KILL EM" sense, but more of a fascination of human history) I have worries as many people I had the HONOR to serve with are marching to Baghdad as I type this. My former roommate and one of my closest accquaintences is there now, a few of my former Sergeants as well as former Officers not to mention two soldiers I USED TO BE IN CHARGE OF. Reality really smacks you in the ass sometimes. My heart goes out to all of them.
