Anti-semitic slur against me

I really want to draw attention to this. I think this is just over the line behavior, and I want a public apology. I'm not even Jewish - although I think that the belief that because I am a New York City liberal that I am a Jew is almost as insulting as the slur itself.

Personal attacks are one thing, and I really don't mind if you call me an asshole or an idiot. But I think that slurs like this are beyond the pale. I spent all day waiting for an apology in the thread, where I called attention to the slur. Then Nelson posted an anti-Catholic slur in another thread. Coincidentally, I was raised Catholic.

Chill out Devin.. like you're not one to offend others. This should of been dealt with through PMs and not drug out for all to see in the Chewers forum.

Just as in poor taste as Nelson's comment.

It's all perception. You took that as racist. I didn't.

You seem to always like to put your own meaning on what someone says then declare it as the only way it could be percieved.

I wouldn't apologize. What purpose does it serve? If he IS racist it's not like this debate will change that, and if he isn't then you're the one who attached a racist meaning to it.

Either way, whats the fucking point?

I don't understand how that post is to be understood as NOT a slur. If I was black and the word menorah was watermelon, would that be enough for you?

The fact that I am NOT Jewish does not change the nature of the slur.

What happened to this "Thick Skin" theory that was being preached for the longest time?

My god, really, you constantly contradict everything you say. He’s probably not a racist, but made a low joke, regardless what is publicly apologizing going to prove? If this happened to anyone else you would have been the first to say this thread is sucking bandwidth and belongs in PM's.

A think skin is one thing... but no one on this board should feel comfortable making racial or religious slurs. No skin should be thick enough to accept that.

The fact that some of you can't understand how a personal attack is different from a racial, ethnic or religious slur is a little sad though.

I didn't expose shit. A person who was ADMITTEDLY (how do you think I found out? She posted about) unstable DID CRAZY THINGS and I called her on it.

Did I do "Jewish" things? I can't help but think that if this was reversed, if I had slurred someone, your ass would be all over me.

Instead of "yelling and screaming" about it you could have calmy wrote him and explained how you were genuily offended.
Then if he still acts up then say something.

Here's my take:

While I don't agree with making a thread like this since it may inevitably lead to more personal attacks (which it has already), I will say that Nelson truly needs to curb his remarks sometimes.

I think an apology would be great and I really think Devin would accept it.

I know everything about being assaulted with awful and hateful anti-semitic words with the sole intention of making me feel miserable. Having said that, I think that Devin would need to develop some "tough skin" considering he has dished out many a criticism that could be misinterpreted as having the wrong intentions.

You can't force someone to make an apology. You can request one and the person can choose to comply. If not, life will go on.

I think Nelson's comments are in poor taste and understand why Devin is insulted. At the same time, this is something that should have been kept to PM, if only because Nick requested that we keep his message board free of this type of bickering.

You know, these past few weeks it's been "PM this, PM that" but until someone makes a request that they want something in private, from here on in things should be out in the open. It shouldn't be decided for a person that it needs to be in PM.

PMs (in situations like this, not all) are the proverbial bag over the head of the body that is the CHUD message boards.

This is the correct forum for this type of thread. That's why it hasn't been closed. Nick has asked for some personal discretion in deciding what to put out in the open and what not to. I think this is one of those occassions that he would have wanted in PM.

All he is asking is that we act like adults. in the real world, if someone slights me, I can't force them to make an apology. This is no exception.

I'm keeping a running total of people who are anti-semitic, according to their utter lack of reaction to an anti-semitic statement.

This isn't just about me being offended - I'm not a Jew, so that's not a smack at me. It's about what CHUD as a community accepts. And anti-semitism, it seems, is in the OK column.

Again, this isn't about a personal attack - bring em on. This is about a truly offensive slur. I would be just as outraged if someone used a hispanic slur against Nelson, or a black slur against Micah or an Asian slur against Voltes.

Devin, no one accepts anti-semitism on CHUD. If you had PMed either a moderator or a member of the Star Chamber with the offending link and quote, this could have been dealt with without all this drama on a privately-owned message board whose owner has repeatedly asked folks to not screw with it.

I'm also disappointed that most of you who posted in here resorted to bashing Devin. Yet again, you all give more credence to why the Star Chamber was created.

Consider this a warning. If there is one more personal attack, this thread will be closed.
