Well, first day of work has passed. I didn't do much... the company just moved from one office to another, so I alternated between moving boxes and watching some of the editors set up the avid systems all day. They're going to find more for me to do... but today there wasn't much for me.
I have noticed something funny. There is a subtle feud between the blue collar workers and white collar workers of the company, namely the people in ad production and the people in ad sales.
The guys in production (where I am camped) make the comercials and do all the labor. They wear t-shirts, jeans, and tennis shoes. They curse a lot, their walls are covered in girl pin-ups and cheesy movie posters, listen to Van Halen, and they lurch.
The guys in sales make deals with other companies to run ads for them on TV, hiring clients and so on. They wear suits or dresses, speak very quickly and with good grammar, listen to country radio, and cover their walls in draps, paintings, and pictures of their kids.
They hate each other. Sales people don't understand how to make commercials, so they expect them out way before they can physically be made. Production people people then become angry and dish out half-ass commercials so they can meet the deadlines.
It feels like Hollywood.
