Greetings again my fellow chewers. As some of you know <a href="http://chud.com/board/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=66&t=001021&p=" target="_blank">I am not attending the San Diego Comic-Con this summer.</a>
One of the reasons why is that I decided to quit my job. That was two weeks ago, when I turned in my two weeks notice. Today was my final day.
I told my supervisor (who also handled the two weeks notice) that I wanted to keep the notice quiet to everyone at work because I wanted to leave the place the way I came: quietly.
After enduring two long final weeks at the place, and having to deal with the endless whiny customers and one asshole co-worker (the worse of the employee bunch), I survived and made it to this day. Originally I wanted to flat out quit the day after I got fed up with my job, but my parents advised me not to because it would disrespect the supervisors who helped me through the tough times in the past. Grudingly, I agreed and I quit the job properly with the the two weeks notice, making me eligible to be rehired.
Enough backstory, onto the final day.
A few highlights:
- I thought I have experienced the worst of customers ever. Nope, they were nothing to the No.1 Psycho-Customer from Hell. No offense to those who are, or know people who are affected by this, but the customer from hell had Multiple Sclerosis, which wasn't the problem. The problem wasn't that the lady needed help getting the items she wanted from the store. I've done that several times for several people, no problem at all. The problem with her is that she was a complete bitch, ordering me around like a little boy, telling me to do this and that without saying please or thank you, and worst of all being a total tyrant, repeating her simple directions over and over, talking out loud when I'm right next to her, and annoying the shit out of me.
- The asshole co-worker from hell didn't work today, so I didn't have to look over my shoulder to see whether he was giving a dirty look, or have to pretend to be nice to him.
- Some moron bought a bag of cat litter that obviously had a small hole in it, allowing a small stream of fine (as in sand thin) cat litter to spill on the floor of the store while he/she shopped, leaving trails and piles of fine cat litter in his/her wake. Guess who has to sweep it all up?
- Finally, the best moment! One of the security guards who I have known since I started working there and is good friends with the other employees I am cool with found out that today was my last day and...
(YOU WON'T BELIEVE THIS!)
...OFFERED TO BUY ME ANY DVD I WANTED!!!!!!!
I nearly fainted in shock, but he said that I was a good worker and that it his treat for being cool after all the time I worked at the store (since late November 2001). Yes, he is heterosexual, and we're cool with each other cuz' we talk a lot of movie and comic book trivia, along with release dates for future video games. He said not to pick an expensive DVD, since he had just gotten back from a Las Vegas trip with another co-worker, and had spent a lot of money. To me, "expensive" meant anything over $20.00 bucks. I thought of THE REPLACEMENTS (yes, I really do like that movie and saw it in theatres, worth every dollar I spent), but then I took a chance and asked him if the LORD OF THE RINGS: FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING Two-Disc set would be cool (only $22.99) and he said...
(WAIT FOR IT...)
...YES!
So now with my DVD's of THE MATRIX, SPIDER-MAN: THE LIMITED EDITION COLLECTOR'S GIFT SET, THE ANIMATRIX, and FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING 2-disc, this brings my collection up to four now. (Yeah, not a lot compared to the rest of you but I prefer quality over quantity.) I remain eternally grateful to that man.
Overall, the day went way smoother than most days (for the most obvious reasons) although it was hot as heck outside. While I will miss the good employees who worked at my job, the work itself I will not miss.
I wanted to let you all know this since the CHUD message boards really helped me remain positive while sticking to my hellish job and gave me a lot of laughs when I was feeling depressed. Since a lot of you have dished out your own personal events here, I figured I might as well do so myself.
