Going Down... Under

It's not quite official yet, but it looks like I'll finally be heading to "Oz"! I am awaiting confirmation (which should come this week) for a trip that would put me in Sydney from July 3 through about July 9th (unfortunately, that's it... so I won't have the time to visit other cities, including friends in Melbourne and Adelaide ).

Anyway, I know there are a few Chewers down there (and others who have been there). So, kindly share any suggestions or info. on Sydney and the surrounding areas. Dos, Don'ts, places to eat, things to see... I need as much as possible (especially since the wife might be accompanying me).

Thanks!

Unfortunately, I didn't spend a lot time in Sydney when I was in Australia so I can't give you much advice. The one thing you should definitely do is get a view of the skyline from the top of the Harbour Bridge. You'll have a great time.

Do watch out for spiders. Sydney just happens to be home to one of, if not the, most venomous spider.

And have a good trip.

Bring a frog with you.

Thanks, guys!

I must admit... the mention of evil spiders does indeed send chills down my spinal neck beast. :shudder:

And what's with the frog thing?

It refers to the Cane Toad that Austrailians imported to protect their crops from a type of beetle, only to have them overpopulate and become a menace to society. They are also poisonous and are one of the reasons "toad licking" is an alternate (but extremely dangerous) way to hallucinate.

It was also featured as a subplot to the Simpson's episode where bart gets extradited to Australia for collect calls.

Ah... gotcha. Well, the only amphibian I plan on bringing is the wife, so I should be okay.

Say hello to Garth for us!

Don't cup Sansweet's balls no matter how much they pay you.

Come now. Give me more credit than that. Have I ever done such? (Our experience during the screening of RICHARD III does not count).

You love the balls, everyone knows.

I'm sorry, but if I see something like this I will be very tempted to bring it back home and make it the newest member of the Cunningham Clan. I mean, look at that photo. He's great!

On top of the spider thing they have the most venoumous snakes in the world. And they talk funny.

I mean, who the fuck uses the word Bonzer in their standard vocabulary?

Have a great time man and be sure to hit the beaches.

Yeah, I know about the spiders and snakes. My oldest daughter requires that I watch The Crocodile Hunter as much as possible. And that crazy fool plays with said deadly critters.

Thanks. We'll try to have as much fun as possible. I'm sure I'll "catch a lolly" or two while there.

Be very afraid. It's the reason I refuse to visit Australia ever.

That being said, I hope you have a great time.

So, is this the reason you are going, Carl? Something having to do with Star Wars?

I didn't say that.

Confirmed. July 3-9.

Now I REALLY need some advice and activity/food recommendations.

Also, little things. Such as, what kind of AC power converters do they use down there? And I can destroy these evil spiders without fear of government repurcussion, right?
