You think you own whatever land you land on
The earth is just a dead thing you can claim
But I know every rock and tree and creature
Has a life, has a spirit, has a name
You think the only people who are people
Are people who look and think like you
But if you walk the footsteps of a stranger
You'll learn things you never knew, you never knew
Have you ever heard the wolf cry to the blue corn moon?
Or asked the grinning bobcat why he grins?
Can you sing with all the voices of the mountain?
Can you paint with all the colors of the wind?
Three years last month. Three years of laughter, joy, birth, death, and everything in between. And yet, as three years begins to become four, it feels like the first CHUD chapter of my life is beginning to close. You guys and the friends I have made here will forever be part of my life, but working at camp, working with kids, seeing the starlight in a child's smile, made me realize that I can have a life outside CHUD. I still think of things occasionaly as "Rath would..." but that has become fewer and fewer since I started working here at this paradise on earth.
My dad always told me that there are "perfect moments" in our lives. All my life I've been searching for one, and last weekend, as I sat on a warm summer night watching fireworks burst over the Akron sky while "Drops of Jupiter" played from a nearby stereo, I had one. I realized this was what heaven must be like, and I was at peace.
I love you guys, but it's time for me to explore other things. There is a great big beautiful world out there, and I feel like I've just discovered it.
Also, I told myself that I wouldn't post again until I got laid and got published. I'm working on both of those as we speak.
So this isn't really a "goodbye" so much as it is a "Godspeed." I wish you all the best of luck in your endeavours, personal and sewerly.
