The Sean Bateman Praise Thread... or a lesson on how to rise through CHUD

Thread Starter
Yes, you read that right. I think Sean Bateman deserves praise. I normally don’t do these praise threads… as the guys who get those usually get praise all the time. They deserve it, but I feel some of the little guys need some love.

Sean Bateman. Here is a guy who come aboard CHUD... had a terrible time getting adjusted... faced tons of ridicule and name calling and jokes in his name... and he stormed the whole load. He made it though. He is so used to being made fun of, he takes it in stride... even when it's not an insult... as I saw here not long ago...

http://chud.com/board/ubbhtml/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=010253

Dave Davis:
I must disagree with Bateman on pretty much every level.

Bateman:
Fair enough.

Dave Davis:
Just about this movie, of course. Not everything ever. Meheh.

Bateman:
Okay, I thought that was just one of those stereotypical slams.

That, to me, is class. Where many new guys would flip out and call names at that statement... Bateman keeps his cool, as he always does.

True, his post count is insanely high for his tenure here... true, he can be pretty outspoken and sometimes annoying... but who can't be, eh? I think he's a good guy, and this is coming from a guy who thought of him as just another crap-newbie when he first appeared.

Let this be a lesson to all you newbies out there. Bateman should be your example. Stick it out... make some friends... get some respect. Sad that your opinions aren't welcomed at CHUD because they're different? Bullshit. Bateman had, and still has, opinions that differ from the CHUD mainstream... and look at this! He has a praise thread! Why? Because he's got the shit... and the shit is good.

Give it up for the Bates.

I've only been visiting the CHUD forums for a year or so but I have to say, so far Bateman's posts are always a high point. The amount of posts might be slightly insane, but it's nice having regulars taking part of the discussions. There are certain people's opinions I always look forward to at the CHUD forums and Bateman's is most definately one of them.

Bateman doesn't deserve any praise until he learns to stop playing goalie in every thread where the Matrix has even the slightest chance of being criticized.

And yes, he does "snap" in such situations.
I can agree with this.

Sean "Master" Bateman deserves a lot of praise. Always the high point of ANY discussion he posts into (regardless of what DVTS or General Zod says) he pull off believable opinions and judgments (although he really through all of us for a loop with the Post-Release "From Justin to Kelly" discussion).

"Tidal wave!"

That will always be one of favorite posts from "Master" Bateman. wink

Here's hoping that last post is a joke!

But I definitely think Bateman deserves praise. When he wants to be, he's articulate and I even think he's a little bit like me when I was a newbie. I do think he's really fitting into the mold now.
I don't know, his Charlies Angels 2 thread sort of lowers his greatness.
I've got much love for Bateman and not in a gay way. The guy has interesting opinions on films and other stuff. Just a great guy to talk to. I'm glad he has his own praise thread.
I dig his enthusiasm. He jumps in a bit too much sometimes, but he's a good kid at heart, and clearly digs film, which is good.
Never heard of him.

<g>
Boy, Lance. I can smell the Scorched Planet stank all over you....

And yeah, Bateman's cool. Despite the shit that everyone gave him, he toughed it out and stuck around. That's more than we can say for a lot of people we pick on.
I always look forward to reading Bateman's posts even when I don't agree with him. His enthusiasm and passion for movies is obvious, and that's what places like CHUD are really about.

French Fry Girl has a certain burnt aroma about "her" as well. That, people, is no lady!
I really appreciate every compliment thrown my way in this thread. I even appreciate the crazy negative posts because they gave me a big laugh. I realize I still snap and ramble on incoherantly like a drunken four year old in 1% of my posts (which equals roughly 23 posts per day) and I will try and fix that eventually. I have benefitted from these boards more than I could have ever imagined. Many people have responded to my oft criticized "enthusiasm" and it has done me a lot of good. I wish most people could respond to movies the same way I do. They still make me tick, and I've yet to become a cynical and jaded filmgoer that is not embarassed to genuinely flip out over movies.

*sigh* I see they've crawled out of the woodwo...never mind. Not worth the time.

Sean, I'll be seeing The Hulk this afternoon. Since I haven't read the thread yet, give me a sneak peek. Did you like it?

I was happy to be an ear for ya in the wee hours. (I caught that this morning, btw) wink That's what friends are for.

Sean Bateman is the man. He has been a great friend to me in the short time I've known him and he always manages to be hilarious, witty, and informative. Why do I love him? Let me count the ways.

1)He never got scared off, even though I kept threatening to use him to fertilize my eggs and then eat him.

2)He never got scared off, even after seeing the most bizarre of my webcam art.

3)He is a fan of the horribly unrecognized practice of webcam art.

4)He is a wonderful writer. Anyone who reads his work will laugh. Hard.

5)He thinks I'm hot

6)He shares my dreams of running away to California and making movies.

7)He is a funny drunk

8)He is cute

9)He thinks ninjas are cool. He thinks pirates are cool. He thinks ninja-pirates that burst into flames when they are angry are very very cool.

10)He isn't afraid to have different opinions.

These are all the reasons I love Sean Bateman. I hope he stays for a long time and keeps posting until he is decrepid and withered.

Oh, and I really hope French Fry Revolts post was a joke, she really freaks me out. A lot.
When Bateman first jumped on chud, a lot of his mosts were pretty immature. These past couple months though, hes settled in nicely and really became one of my favorite posters. Even after I gave him shit for acting like a moron when he first came.

Loved, but with reservations. Recomended.

In a way, this is how I feel. Us non-cynical types should stick together.
While I sometimes disagree with him, Bateman was one of the first people to welcome me here and is always quick to toss a compliment my way. That right there is reason enough for me to chime in on the praise. Good for you, Sean.
Bates, your opinions on Italian Job and various other films still make my head spin.

But I still love you.
He's a good lad, that Bateman. Never mind the trouble with the ax and all that...

Seriously though, a good kid with tons of enthusiasm. The comic is not bad, also. He might just do something if given half a chance.

And the FFGirl thing? This is someone who might just be a little bit more than "seriously disturbed". He's innocent of all her bizarre charges.
If even 1/10th of his constant enthusiasm translates into whatever he eventually winds up directing, this kid is going to become richer than God himself. On top of that, he's a genuinely nice guy who has written some hilarious stuff, and he puts up with shit on these boards than probably any two posters combined.

If someone else hadn't made this thread, and if I wasn't fantastically lazy, I would have made it myself.
I would like to second Hellboys comment about French Fry Revolt. Listen to nothing, he is innocent of all charges.
sean bateman = good

that is all
Bateman is still the only person to ever PM me. For that, he gets props.
He paid to see "From Justin to Kelly".
Just a small example of the delicious enigma that is Sean Bateman.
I lurve me some Bateman. I never understood the bad rap he gets here.
He posts a lot. I'll give him that.

He kinda reminds me of the Verbals.

Remember when Verbal was like Sean?

Yes you do.

..and we all love Verbal now.

So there is hope.
Bateman,

Remember the "What Does General Logan Think of You?" thread I started? I mentioned some surface facts about you that I could recall at the time. I think it was something about being tough skinned or not taking any shit or something.

Since then, I have noticed a lot more of your personality in your posts, and think that you are a funny guy, and welcome addition to this place.

As for "French Fry Revolt", what was wrong with typing your comments under your orignal handle?

Read that thread again...I think you misunderstood.

I bet Sean likes Operation Ivy too.

Shit I listened to when I was 13.

I saw Rancid shortly after they formed down at what the hell was that place called then, I think it was LaLuna before it was La Luna.

Whatever.

Next he'll get into Pink Floyd and talk about how Dark Side is better than the Wall. Then he'll swear that Wish You Were Here is really the best before going on a Barrett kick before getting knee deep in New Order and InSoc before swearing off europop for Drum & Bass before getting kicked into high gear on X and start dying his hair pink only to start getting on some kind Dyland/Cash kick before he starts digging on Adult Contemp because its "cool".
No to Operation Ivy. I am over Floyd. Got bored with it.
Almost 6000 post in a year? If anything, this boy is ardent in his ability to log on and talk. That's why we love him so much. His 'can-do' attitude.
It's a little odd. I worked for eight hours today, had a three hour class, hung out with a friend for a few hours, and saw T3 and I somehow found time to post too many times.

Someone kick me.
Perhaps my problem is that I don't post enough. Even with all the post whoring I did when the "Answer a question, ask a question" thread was going like crazy, I've still only averaged about 3.4 posts a day.

PS. To the Scorched Planet Asshats==> Suck my balls.
Do not follow my example. Only a few people can fail at Chud as spectacularly as I have. It takes skill, patience, and a steady diet of random punk playing in the background.
I've got the Clash's London Calling playing. Does that count or is that too old?
Good CD, but not my favorit Clash album.
first off, i think these pat-on-the-back threads suck, but at least the positive masturbatory (is there any other kind?) antics are being directed towards someone else...

with that, here's my irrelevant two cents, having only been here since this past march i know most of you not so very well, but few do stand out time and time again, whether impressively or annoyingly, even during the first week i was here Bateman did stand out as a positive force of CHUD and definitely one of the reasons why i chose to stick around, with all the hollow praise and bullshit candy ass dick pulling that goes on, this thread is actually pretty well justified, defintely a fun and enjoyable poster, and even though i miss the Samurai and think name changing is infantile, the kudos are well deserved...

Not offended in the slightest. It usually may come across that way when it is not the case. I am not sure why I dig that album the most but I just enjoy it.
I can't remember who, but there was a song where the guy sang "I hope I stop before I make my Combat Rock."
I like Bateman. Everything said above is true. The man is an enthusiasm dynamo and has kept a sense of humor about himself. I've seen a lot of references to people "getting cornered" on the boards by people that don't like them or people who think they're shills and then leaving really quickly. There's a better way to handle criticism(humor and a lack of defensiveness) and Mr. Bateman has been a good example of that.

Also, he let me pick his new name that one time...I liked that.

Edited because I can't spell "everything".

I thought i'd come in here after my post in the LXG thread and pat Sean on the back. At first I thought you were a tad annoying but with time I saw more of your personality and now consider you one of the chudsters who belongs(Ok that didn't sound quite right but whatever). Sean I look forward to slamming studios with you in the future and producers who rip films from their directors hands and ruin the true vision of their movies. Rock on sir and i'm glad you had Reloaded this summer. I'm sure that took a huge part of the sting out of 2 Fast 2 Furious and From Justin to Kelly.
Chudsters???

I think 'Chewers' is the word you're looking for...
Well I wasn't looking for it really and Chudster is just another variation of Chewer. Nothing wrong with a little variation from time to time.
Variation is swell, but that's a dumb name.
