Please don't unregister me for this...

...but what is up with all of the unregisterings lately? What exactly have these people been doing to deserve this?

Note: I am NOT defending these people, I'm just ignorant of the situation and wanted to know what's goin' on.

There's probably a good reason for all of it. I remember several star chamber things saying it was going to toughen soon.
Most of it (that I am aware of) is due to the scorched planet trolling that we have going on.

Don't worry, DU, we still love you. wink
We've had lots of other message boards put out attacks on us lately, and Warner Brothers seems to have launched an all out shill war on us, so things are going to stiffen on newbies. Regular Chewers need not worry... this is mostly a defense against the surge of trolls lurking their way towards us.

Damn, you made me spill my Vanilla Coke!

Yo, dude... Simple Plan is playing!
I'm still completely baffled why they were on the Warped Tour. I took a much need half hour break during that coporate shitfest.

Can somebody explain to me what "scorched planet" means? Is that a reference to Chewers making new ids just to be annoying?

And kitty, you have no idea how much that brightened my day. Thanks
post #10 of 40
See, your best bet would've been to take an all-day break and not even go...

Is this the part where I tell you to go fuck yourself? The tour this year was one of the best experiences of my entire life. It all hinges on how much you love Rancid or AFI.

As long as somebody explains "scorched planet" to me, you guys can take over the thread and talk about your mall-punk concerts all you want.
Wow. Mall punk? Simple Plan is, that is for sure. Do you even know who is playing at the Warped Tour? Fucking mall punk?

Rant over.

Vans is a publicly traded company, thus the entire festival is a "coporate" shitfest. Plus, y'know, all the music sucks.

Ringo, I'm trying, trying real hard to be a shepard.

But seeing Rancid was one of the defining moments of your life?
AFI
Rancid
Poison the Well
Suicide Machines
Tsunami Bomb
Dropkick Murphy's

'Nuff said.

Rancid is my favorite band (currently) and I have never been one for concerts. I was completely unprepared for the experience. Once again, it's something that cannot be explained.

Heh, just kidding dude. All I know is that when I went last year, it was a gathering of lame preppies who showed up to hear New Found Glory and other assorted shit. I got to see Alk3 play, but they weren't very good live, so all in all, Warped Tour really let me down.

PSSSSSSST: scorched planet...what is it?
There's this little website (a blog, like the Facer's offspring) that's targeting me and the Chewers. I'm not gracing them with any traffic.

That is true. I didn't even go last year. This year's tour was a fucking amazing mix of kickass bands.

There is an entire world of music waiting for you. I'm not being a dick, I'm just saying.

Try some Velvet Undergound, some Stooges, some Clash, some Jam. Some Pixies even.

This is not meant to be an insult.

Not everyone is in love with older bands. Why don't people understand this?
There's nothing inherently wrong with modern music. I never said that. But these are the people who made that stuff possible, and (arguably, but not really arguably) did it better.

I love The Clash, enjoyed VU, and the Pixies are damn good. As we speak I am listening to the first Clash album (US Version). I listened to that album, Combat Rock, and the new Rancid while writing all twelve issues of my comic. I don't post much on music because it is not something I can really explain. It's just a gut reaction. Rancid is my favorite punk band today. AFI is probably my second favorite band at the moment. Their music is haunting, poetic, very original, and Havok is probably the most charismatic singer alive.

You're a nice kid, don't be a trainable.
Just to clarify:

I'm more interested in current political/anarchist punk at the moment. Examples: Anti-Flag, Leftover Crack, Rancid, NOFX etc.

I don't even understand what that means.

Here's the thing, for me, when I was a bit younger, people I respected guided me towards some good things. In kind, whenever I can point people to the base line of talent, hey I try and do it. Things that, for me, have never gotten old. Elvis Costello, Joy Division, etc.

I don't assume I'm "wiser" or anything like that, but when people mostly listen to modern music, I assume they haven't been pointed in good directions, and my arrogance/empathy feels the need to point.

Like any advice (good or bad), it can be taken or left.

I've been pointed in all sorts of directions before, but the fact remains that I just don't get into classic rock or classic punk or whatever. I may listen to bands that are influenced by older bands like Stooges, Clash, VU, etc, but that doesn't automatically mean that I will latch onto and love these bands. It's something that has confounded many people before you and Lawhorn, so don't feel bad.

I'm just not really into classic rock.
Joy Division = Fucking great. To be honest, I didn't find them on my own. I loved 24 Hour Party People more than the average person (now there's a suprise) so I tracked down all the music and Joy Division is just goddamn fucking amazing.

My brother, on the other hand, LOVES classic rock. So it's not a case of underexposure; trust me, I hear a LOT of this stuff. It just never caught on with me.
As a whole, I hate current popular music bands. Might have something to do with my hate of most punk music. I can't stand AFI, Good Charllote (SP), or The Ataris. I have some friends who are huge punk fanatics and I swear, if I hear the band Thursday one more time, I wll go on a rampage GTA style. I hate that fucking band. There is nothing more annoying to me than a bunch of bratty teenage punks screaming at the top of their voices complaining about their girlfriends or High School. You're girl dumped you... whoo-hoo... have a beer and shut up.

I do love the hell out of Reel Big Fish though. They whine and complain, sure, but they do it with style.
Have you heard AFI? You were right about the other two, but they haven't mentioned a girlfriend or a test in about five albums.
I don't like AFI because I don't like their music. Sounds terrible. I've honestly never listened to their lyrics.

I'm of a totally different music mind-set, though. My CD collection is mostly made up of B.B. King, classical music, Beatles, Zepplin, Radiohead, Phish, and Counting Crows. I love ska music like Reel Big Fish, Sublime, and Mighty Might Bostones, but as far as punk goes, I only like Audio Karate. I don't know why, but I do for some reason.
I am hooked on jazz and punk at the moment. I used to listen to everything but country.

I love Chud tangents.

So you listened to a weaker version of the Clash debut, one of the poorer Clash albums, and crappy punk while writing your new comic?

I'm sold.
