Other Korean directors I look out for is Park Chan Wook, who directed JSA and Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance. He's got talent to burn.
Kwak Kyung Taek, director of Friend and Champion, is another.
Jang Jin (The Spy, Guns & Talks) and Kim Sang Jin (Kick the Moon, Attack the Gas Station, Jail Breakers aka Special Amnesty) are both great at socio-political comedy and uniquely comic situations/characters.
Lee Chang Dong's previous films Green Fish, Peppermint Candy and most recently, Oasis, all garnered critical kudos and film festival awards.
Kim Ki Duk (The Isle, Bad Guy, The Coast Guard) is one subversive mother. He's the Korean arthouse Miike.
