Chud City Name-Vote Here!

To summarize:

Some people have suggested that the chewers create their own version of Castle Rock for Chudstories.com. I think Hastur has agreed to take on the project, but I'm helping out.

First up is deciding on a name for the town. From a list of nominees, please choose which one you like the best. If you have an alternate suggestion(s), add them here as well. Please take your time and consider each choice carefully.

Thank you.

NOMINEES:
Chuddiston
Chud Rock
Chud West
Lake Chud
Chudder Gorge
Valley of the Chud
Chewer's Grove
Chud's Gap
Chud on Stratford on Avon
Chud Bluff
Chud Cove
Bakersville
Roanoke
Chud Valley

I actually think that a name with "CHUD" in it is not a good thing.

First off, since I sort of got this ball rolling, let me emphasize that this is not intended to be a place for all the CHUD stories to take place -- it would be it's own little shared world with stories being written about it, separate from Backspace, Creature Features, and Further Adventures Of....

That said, I kind of agree with Blofeld -- either have the use of "CHUD" be subtle or don't use it at all.

What about:

Cape Hunter's Dock?

You know, a little town on an island [see, isolated] off the coast of the Carolinas?

Just a thought...

I think the name of the town should be Lumiere. Sounds neat and is the name of the man who gave the first public movie showing, so it's an homage to why we're all here anyhow.

I say let the nominations go until this Friday, have the vote over the weekend, and post the winner on Monday. This way everyone that wants to get in on the action has a chance to.

A lot of those are too silly sounding for my tastes.

Seward. Not too over the top.

Seward is nice.

Which are silly anyway.... wink

I like Lumiere. Nice homage to film, without plastering Chewer or CHUD all over it.
Of course, I also also like Roanoke. Hastur's creature suggested a street called "Croatan Drive."

Lumiere is a sweet name too.

Works for me.

Folks, we also need to choose a location, so if you want to suggest nominees for that, go for it.
Mine's for an island off the coast of the Carolinas.

Devin, you have once again proved why you are a genius. I like. A lot.

Here are some other topics for suggestion, as recommened by Old Man Coyote. Nice job.

Quote:
*Do we want mild climate, or extreme weather?
I like hot in the summer, freezing in the winter.

Quote:
*How did commerce shape the town, conveyance-wise? Railroad? River? Lake? Port? (My suggestion...railroad yes, and make it a rivertown, with one side of the river being the lower income side, the more dangerous side...from a human standpoint, anyways.)
Nice. Kind of cliched though, you know, the wrong side of the tracks, things like that. River town lends itself naturally to things like abandoned amusement parks, etc.

Quote:
* Do we want more of a frontier feel to it (even though the west was settled long ago, many areas still have that frontier feel to them), or a cozy hollow feel to it?
I don't know, but I think the town should evoke some sort of emotion pertaining to "a small town in the summer time", kind of like Derry in It

Howzabout...

Charleston (aka The Big Chew or Chewtown)
Boomstick
Wastewater
Shelbyville
Egout Peaks

I think we shouldn't be too specific about place. Just leave as this sort of Everytown that could be anywhere, kind of like Springfield on The Simpsons.

As for a name, how about Melies Point?

My thoughts exactly. That's how I was picturing it.

...which is why something like Roanoke, Lumiere, or Bakerton gets my vote.

Chudsmouth?

Chudwich?

Nunzwich?

Nick's Mesa (If it does end up in New Mexico somewhere.)
Lumiere
Lumiere has a nice ring to it.
Lumiere lends itself nicely to so many things. The newspaper could be the Lumiere Beacon or the Lumiere Torch. The high school could be the Lumiere High Fireflies or something like that.
And isn't so cloyingly obvious as a fan-fic "CHUD" label to the town.

These should stay serious pieces of fiction, without devolving into inside jokes.
Just put a vowel in front of "CHUD" and it works ok.

Example:

Achudston
Ochudka
Echudsson
Ichuding
Uchudant
And when you say it, don't pronounce "Chud" as such, but pronounce it like "Kud."
And when you spell CHUD L-u-m-i-e-r-e
So, my vote is Lumiere, then. Voting Roanoke would be silly, since I like Lumiere, there's a strong vote behind it, and I'm the only one who like Roanoke wink
