GOOD NEWS

Ok, starting a new thread, because I'm a practical optomist. If you don't know what that is, it'll be in a Lumiere story at some point.

Yes, that implies that there will be Lumiere stories.

I called Nick (didn't have his phone number before). Despite what it's looked like as of late, he's VERY excited and adamant about the site. He also wasn't kidding about the BIG PLANS he mentioned...not that we thought he was blowing smoke, but it turns out there's a reason we're being kept in the dark. He can't talk about it at present, which probably means I can't mention what little he was able to tell me. (I don't mention this to tease you or do the "I know something you don't know" peepee dance, I'm saying it to counteract any blargness I imparted on it in a previous post. It's looming on the horizon, and its size is indeed impressive.)

Communication lines are again open. An admin board is in the works. Dave Davis is going to be a proxy updater, which means stories should be arriving soon. He has my respect again. (If this seems sudden and two faced on my part, bear in mind the main problem was feeling like he was ignoring us, which was due to lack of communication and follow through. Talking to him cleared up much of this...gee, imagine that...in a very short time. It may be hard to piss me off, but unlike the cliche, I don't stay mad.)

Said BIG PLANS also ellicited the comment of seeing what an editor is in the future, but he still wants Hastur to do what she's been doing, and to that end, she's going to call him tomorrow if they're both available at the same time.

Nick also has other plans to give the site alot more admin attention. The timing just sucked, and when you combine this with the site having been launced a little early and lack of commincation (which he freely admits was there), it looked like he didn't give a damn...but he really does. Seriously.

Also, the "story sent to Nick in like 6 different formats" issue that held up submission of new stories? The story in question was LAST CALL.
Nick got it in a correct format, and posted it quickly. (then waited for more stories, which never came, because....)

Where is it, do you ask?

Good question. Until I talked to him a bit ago, Nick thought it was up, right after Let Him Dangle. He's not sure what happened, but it's possible that the site was reupdated at some point using a pre-Last Call version, and the story went poof (don't worry, the story itself still exists, and will be put back up). Or maybe there was another error...but he was under the impression it was up.

Hastur now has the instructions for what he wants. She still requests you send her stories in Word if at all possible.

Yeah this is excellant.
I have held off sending a story in because it felt like it was gonna be a no-go but it seems to have been sorted.

Send. As soon as we get a few more of the Lumiere stories up, I'll start announcing the various stuff that's going to be going on on this board. First, though, I want you all to see what's been written, so you have a better sense of each other's styles.

Meanwhile: what is Dave Davis's e-mail? Could someone (like you Dave? *grin*) please send it to me so I can start CCing you the stories?

Something else: If you guys don't mind the rare spamming of information when it doesn't belong on the boards, e-mail me with permission to add you to my list. I want to start a list of the writers of Chud, in case the tool can be useful. No ads (you have no idea how much I hate the bloody things). No jokes. Nothing but news.

it's dave@chud.com

if you could also find out whether or not the author wants their email posted with their name on the story, that'd help. i'm always hesitant to put up a "real" email address (e.g. not hotmail or yahoo or the like) without authorization, because i hate spam as much as anyone in my home account

Authors: When you submit a story to Hastur@houston.rr.com, please let us know:
A)Your real name (or pen name...who you want the story credited TO) and your board name, unless you don't want your board name used for some reason.
B) Whether you want your email addy used, as per above...or if you have a different email addy you want used. Please use a real one if you're going to use one at all...one that's yours, no sending mail to President Bush's interns.
C) A small "About the Author" blurb, if you want anyone to know anything about you. Use your discresion, as long as it's printable...it can be comical if you'd like (I'd personally suggest it fits the same tone as the story you just sent.)

This info has been mentioned before, but I thought I'd put it all in one place.

If you've submitted a story already and haven't filled in these details, feel free to...but please also tell us which stories are yours, because it makes it THAT much easier to match name & info to the stories.

Oh, and a side note:
We are here to help you with writing. As such, we do not at this time have a rule against simultaneous submissions (meaning we don't care if you send it to us and another place at the same time).
However, depending on the publication, some of them may consider CHUDStories a legit media house (while others would just consider us a web site that happenes to post stories that are neither paid for or charged for), so they might consider sending us a story to be SS if you send it to them at the same time. They probably won't, but different publishers have different views of the web.
