Lumiere questions

I'm really liking this Lumiere premise and I would love to contribute. I always have scraps of stories rattling around in my head but I never make the time to set up a whole outline. Within Lumiere much of it is done by/with others and I ned only add my own colors to the palette.

I do have a few questions that I haven't been able to gather from the threads I've read.

Do I need to wait for a category call to write a story?

Will the stories always be limited to 500 words? I understand the need for a limit but it can be a tad limiting for some story arcs...I suppose one could write in "chapters" though.

You don't have to wait for a call to write, but you'd probably be better off doing so. Your story will have to fall into the constraints of an assignment to get posted. They won't all have the word limit. It sounds like Hastur is gong to give us some good things if the 500 word assignment and the character driven assignment (that one's not strictly Lumiere) are any indication. Both stretched me as a writer.

The Capo is correct. You don't have to wait for a category to appear. You can submit however you like.

One of the things I'm attempting (probably vainly) to do is to keep an eye on what is being sent. For example, one of the stories I received was brilliant as a character piece, and since character was the very next exercise, I told him that I wanted to hang on to it for a bit before putting it up to be posted.

On the other hand, if your idea has nothing to do with any of the plans (yes, there is a plan, believe it or not *grin*) then it may go up, just because.

Either way, I will make every attempt to give you at least some idea of what is going on. If nothing else, you are free to e-mail me, or to post on here, and I'll try to help in any way I can.

And thank you Capo. The highest praise is finding out that I achieved my goal - to stretch your writing skills as best as I can.

Hastur,

I sent Mr. Nick a serial killer story for that very category on Creature Features just today. Should I have run it by you first?

Thanks for the information, Cap'n/Hastur.

I am very excited to be able to get an outlet for some creative energy and get some honest feedback at the same time.

I believe the character study will be a true challenge. Thanks.

Now, if I can only make the time to do something coherent.

Make the time man. I had to and as a father, husband, wage slave, it is hard. But thanks the CHUD I have written over 13,000 words in the past 6 weeks. To give you an idea, prior to that I had written almost the same amount in the last 2 1/2 years. That sounded a little infomercial-ish but it's true.

Technically, yes.
In reality, no.

The reason for this is that Nick is in charge of the site itself. He owns it, it's his baby, etc, and can of course edit and post things on his site.

Hastur's the head editor, though, and isn't doing 20 million things at once (only 7 impossible things before coffee), so it's more likely she'd get it edited and sent back to you to approve edits (which, btw, is one of the reasons she's doing this, so you get feedback like that to help in your writing), then back to her then she sends it Dave, and then posted, before Nick even gets a chance to read it. wink
