SCREENPLAY CONTESTS

greetings folks, just wondering what everyone's thoughts were on entering screenplay competitions, i won't name any names to avoid shameless non-royalty based promotion, but there is one that is coming up that i am planning on entering, any thoughts on this? contests good? contests bad? have you ever entered one? would you? please, dish away...

as for me, i entered one this past winter and didn't make it past the first round, the reviewers seemed to all use the term 'wordy porn' in their overviews, at any rate, i've decided to enter some more and try my luck...

I've thought about entering writing contests not specifically screenplay writing. Take my love for writing and my ultra competitive nature and it's a no-brainer. I'd like to win money!

I need to send my audition tape to Fear Factor first though. With that $50,000 I could sit home and write my ass off!

I've always wanted to try, but im finally starting to get my idea's written down, so maybe one day i will. Have to see, good luck to you though.

Wordy porn? Is that like porn with a story? I Dont see the problem, doesnt Anne Rice get paid the big bucks to write that?

Some screenplay competitions are good, I think. Some are not worth the time of day (Project Greenlight can suck my left one). Make sure it is a good, fair one and make sure you got your stuff copyrighted first.

the contest is crap. the voters are the contestants themselves and that is the problem. there is no way to keep people from screwing other contestants for their own good. i feel a good screenwriting contest is one that has voters that have nothing to gain from the contest. this competition is flawed from the beginning.

that was it! project greenlight, the one that called it wordy porn, and since we're throwing names out the Final Draft one is due end of May, it's more neutrally judged i think, and something like first thorugh third or fourth prizes are acutally worth winning, compared to getting, nothing... if anyone has an opinion on that one, or other contests that are of interest, please, spill... spilll it!...

Its a big list of contests, a lot have expired but theres many that havent, and i think some of the expired ones are starting new ones anyways. So if any of you are interested check em out, good for exposure. I know im gonna be sending some work in.
