Camera equipment

Hey everyone. I just purchased the camera for my projects. I got a Cannon XL1S professional pack. I got it off EBay. Before you say anything, let me say that it was 47th St Photo that was auctioning it off. I have bought equipment from them in the past and have had good experiences with them. I got the package for $3,600 which may sound like a lot (and it is), but if you guys have ever priced these cameras, they retail for $4,400. That is just for the camera and lens. The kit that I won also includes a camera bag, pro filters, extra battery, fluid head tripod, cleaning kit, and several blank digital tapes. It is all new. It has been a long and hard road and with my uncertain employment, it was a hard decision to make. Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and go for it. I hope that I did the right thing. Anyway, why I am posting this, is to suggest that you all go to : http://listings.ebay.com/pool2/plistings/list/all/category20330/index.html
That is, if you are looking for these types of cameras or equipment and you can't afford the normal prices. You may get a really good deal. I'll let you know how it goes.

I have nothing but love for the XL1S. GREAT versatile camera, and one that I will own one of these days...

You lucky bastard.

Thanks for the link Bill.
I heard a great many things about the XL1S before i got to work with one and i must say wha an excellant camera.
And for the price, yes its expensive but when you look at how much all the other stuff would cost it is more than worth it.
Now i wonder if they ship to the UK?

I just looked and 47th St Photo has the same package up again and it is at less than $600 right now. There is 2 and a half days left on the bid, so if you are interested, check it out. All I know, is that I'll freak if it goes for a lot less.

Side note: If you can't afford an XL, the GLs are pretty sweet little brothers of them. Hastur has one.
Collecting dust, but she has one wink

I don't know much about cameras, but I'm guessing what Bill had got, was pretty dang good. A couple months back I purchased a Buar Super 8mm camera, does anyone know if they even seel 8mm film? I was thinking about getting a mini-dv camera, but maybe you all know what would be a great buy. Pound for pound a great camera at an affordable price? Any suggestions? Thanks.

I've been shooting a movie on weekends with a Canon XL-1s... renting it from a local film production house... it's a great camera... it feels like a weapon...

But I'm confused about the difference between 'movie' mode (I don't mean the weird letterbox feature, the one that deforms the image) and the 1/30 shutter speed? What do these options help to improve? The resolution, or do they simulate that 'cinema magic' feel of 24 fps?

Has anyone heard about the consumer HD 24-frame camera coming soon from JVC? Check this bad boy out!

http://www.abcdv.com/article/articleview/18/1/33/

If I were going to shoot something in the near future and didn't have a camera, I'd wait for this one.

Foetid shill!

Just kidding.

Fuck, that's a beautiful camera.

Sincerely,
The President of JVC Marketing

It IS official...I have gone insane. I just purchased a glidecam V 8 package. I really want to make this next movie stand out, so I am really putting myself into debt to do so. Let's hope it's worth it. If any of you are thinking about one of these puppies, I'll let you know if it is worth it in a little bit.

I know the GL has 2 modes, one of which records the image full framed, instead of interlaced (half image + have image at 60 fps=30fps interlaced)...this allows you to freeze frame a perfect still, among other things (supposedly makes editing easier as well, although most software compensates for this).

It doesn't have as much to do with the framerate as how the frames are captured. Normally, MiniDV captures images in two fields, which are interlaced to produce one image. In Movie mode, it captures one frame as one frame, giving it a unique look, not incredibly similar to that of film, but pretty much unique in itself.

Maybe it messes w/ the framerate too, although I don't know how that would work. I don't have an XL1. I just have read about them.

With shipping, $2,544.00. There is a special on them. That is about $500 off the normal price, from what I understand. I just hope this is all worth it. We shall see.
