Final Draft

I just recently got myself a copy to spare myself the hassle of trying to format Word properly. That and i heard its the best program out there, even more so than the feature filled Movie Magic Screen Writer 2000. What do you guys use and any particular reasons?

I had to make a switch word took too long to get through and it hurt my ideas more than anything. Things just didnt flow as well. I need something stream lined that'll just let me pour out the contents of whatever idea i have in my mind and just work with it.

I use Final Draft and I love it. It speeds up my writing progress so much that it is well worth the money.

Most of the people in here are split evenly between Final Draft and Movie Magic. Both sides have pretty good arguments about why they choose one over the other.

There was an earlier thread, but it was not really gotten into very much about why one is better than the other, so I don't know the differences between the two.

I do use Movie Magic Schecduler and Budgeting though and it is a God Send.

Yah i tried the Final Draft Demo the other day. Thing was awesome, but i couldnt save. But it gets you into it instantly. I really didnt look into Movie Magic, which i regret. But i did get a good price on Final Draft, 166$ for Final Draft 6, script covers and the fasteners, and the shipping. Compared to the usual 200$. I dont wanna blatantly advertise it, but if your interested just ask and ill point you in the direction of the place.

Yeah I have Final Draft 6.0. I like it. Only problem is you can't emai files from it unless the other person also has FD and it's fucking crap trying to format it over to word. I had a creative writting course last semester in college, and used it FD as I wrote out some one act plays, unfortunately I needed to email them to the professor. I was screwed. Had to basically copy and paste and then try to compensate for the indentations. Looked like crap.

not sure if this would give you what you want, but when I needed to e-mail it, I just saved it as an html file or a pdf file (adobe acrobat). Both work well.

One of the newest writing mags I picked up has a special covering all of the available software for scriptwriting out there. The full blown stand alone suites as well as the cheaper word addons! I need to read it in detail so I can settle on something but since I see alot of people with Final Draft hands on experience that will weigh heavily into my decision.

I've never heard of Word causing a crash like that! What OS are you running? What are your specs? Do you have some kind of graphics program running in the background or music player or something?

I got FD after my scriptwriting tutor recommended it to me and to be honest i wouldn't use anything else although i have heard Movie Magic is pretty good.
