Writers Block

I dont know about you guys, but i constantly get writers block at the wrong moments. ITs friggin horrible when you had some great stuff to say, but it just isnt coming out right. Err its annoying. How do you guys tend to deal with it? I usually just crank up some music and try to relax until ideas start pouring out again. Maybe start writing small details on note paper so i keep even simple things around for when i get back in the mood.

Sex.

Drugs and alcohol are pretty good too.

Sometimes masturbation helps.

People-watching can work wonders. Go to a busy public place and just watch the stupid shit people do. It'll give you more good ideas than you'll know what to do with. Seedy bars, also. And strip clubs. Hey, any excuse.

There's a photo book called Century that I find inspiring. It used to only be available in ten-ton hardback format and cost half a paycheck, but now there's an itsy-bitsy hardback edition that's considerably cheaper. Random photos of strange and momentous things happening. Lots of pictures that tell stories.
I recommend it, and a drink.
Meditation doesn't hurt, either.

that's a really great book, i got it for me folks' anniversary, you can get the hardcover used for a song, got one for like fifteen bucks i think, at any rate, here's what i always tell people about writer's block, it doesn't exist, it's just an excuse for procrastination and it becomes more and more of an excuse for not writing, it also puts the blame somewhere else which makes you feel less responsible, and people say "you don't understand, i really can't write anything," well maybe you just really can't write, i dunno, i'd just force yorself to, and listening to music, although a common theme, i think is pointless, it fills your head with pre-conceived notions and ideas when all you should be concentrating on is, what's in your head, oh and, DAVE's right, sex and drugs and watching people helps immensely, if you live life you'll always have something to write about, if you just sit at home listening to music you'll just end up rotting away rhyming bills with bills, or my other favorite, flies with dragonflies, catchy, but useless...

Actually i used to do the people watching a lot when i lived in Phoenix, thats actually a big help, watching and listening. Oh since New Order is listing bad things, lemme add one to that, watching movies is a horrible thing. At least for me, because then i start to derive too much. But i dunno about music, music's always seemed to help me, not while writing but, relaxing a bit before i get to it. But i think you made a lot of good points New Order, sometimes it is just procrastination. The other half is just not remember what i thought about the night before while falliing asleep. I hate that, the best ideas come before i fall asleep.

I find listening or watching the extras on my DVD's helps when I have writer's block. Either that or lots of exercise. Like a long swim or walk or bike ride. Something about getting the blood flowing I find helps me.

yeah, i'm all for taking a break, stepping back, doing whatever, daily routines, and then jumping right back in, as long as you always jump back in...
