There's always the 2nd mortgage.

If you can't return them, then no. You really need to hear for yourself to find out what difference it makes. It's a waste of money if you would be just as satisfied with wire that cost a fraction of that.

But if you've got $1000 to burn, then why not?

Egg just got a 5 from me for his profile pic and sage advice.

It really depends on your other equipment. If you've got a entry level receiver and a $75 dvd player with shitty speakers, $1000 cables would be senseless. I'd also recommend trying them out first.

As someone who sold said Monster Cables my answer would be.. no.

..but it's a conditional "no".

What speakers are you running? What type of reciever. Most people won't hear an audible differance between the monster standard cables and their high-end cables. My whole system is hooked up with Monster, but I got the crap at 60% off or for free. I even have one of those Clean Power surge protectors, 3 of them.

They can make a differance, but I've noticed the differance between the lower-mid line cables to be 99% of what the high-end delivers.

I think it's all subjective, as someone who would spend $3000 hooking up their system would like to think it all sounds and looks better. In reality I don't think most people would notice a differance.

Just don't use the shit cable and you will be fine.

I have mid-range Yamaha gear and I could honestly tell the difference. I was dead-set against telling the difference but it was like night and day.

Though I ended up getting z-series, not THX.

I read an article in a home theater magazine a while ago. They had trained people listening and they couldn't tell the difference between speaker wire. I had some cheap thin speaker wire for about a year. I changed to thick monster cable and I could tell the difference. It wasn't earth shattering though. If you have good wire, I don't think it's necessary to spend $1000 unless you have a high end system. It all depends on your system. They have Kimber cable bi-wire speaker wire that costs $6000 for two ten foot runs. It would be ridiculous to hook that up to speakers that cost less than $20000 a pair.

A good rule of thumb is to spend maybe 10-15% of your HT's value on wiring. If you've got equipment in the $8-10k range, then it might be worth spending that kind of change.

That said, I've heard of many HT enthusiasts that buy thick copper wire from Home Depot, and make their own high quality speaker cables for a fraction of the cost. I personally wouldn't think of spending that much cash on wiring without being sure that I had a stupendously fantastic speaker set-up. Something like a set of mid-ranged/high-end Paradigm speakers with twin SVS subs.

Monster tends to overcharge on everything else they make (which isn't to say they don't make good stuff, but they charge way more than neccesary on most items...there are cheaper power strips, for instance, that are better than the very good one they put out)...so this doesn't really suprise me.

Again, like I said before the mid level Monster is 99% of what the high-end is. There is a differance between thin copper cable and Monster Standard, this you can hear. Between Z and Standard? Not so sure. Spend the grand on movies, you'll be happier that way.

Did I mention I was blinded as a child by a radioactive isotope?

Buy more movies.

To answer the question posed by this thread...

...not unless you're installing a $50,000 - $100,000 HT system in your home. Basically the only way you'd get your money's worth out of those cables would be to use it with top-of-the-line equipment across the board.

Would a POS Ford Pinto run better with the best transmission cables?
