My DSL Modem/Router died on me a few weeks back, so after Bellsouth replaced the modem, I bought a new router, one with wireless 802.11g technology built in. I then found a great deal on a wireless PCMCIA card at eCost.com ($14.99 + about $12 in S/H fees). Got it this afternoon, and hooked it up in about 5 minutes. I'm now sitting in my living room, watching "Cherry Falls" on Sci Fi, and surfing during the commercials. Awesome! I know I'm arriving late to the wireless bandwagon, but I just had to share...

I'll just watch my stock creep back up.

Might I recommend some nice ISP-sized wireless devices in the 5.8 GHz range? They work super-spiffy and I could use the money.

If I'm not mistaken, billylove is.

His Internet is wireless, so I am sure his XBOX Live is as well.

But, you'll have to wait and see if he sees this thread and it may be a while, as he just had a death in his family, among other things.

The XBOX is not wireless for simple reasons. The router was right there, so I just ran a cable.

Some issues with Home Wireless:

1. If you have a couple of people casually surfing the web, everything is ok. But if you have one or more person using the web heavily, then you may have connection issues.
2. Home Wirless devices usually only listen on one channel.
3. And as you may already know the signal is one way or Half Duplex. You can send but not receive at the same time. This may cause some low ping issues.

Recommendations:

1. If you know only one person at a time will be using the wireless, then from my experience, gaming or heavy internet usage works very well.
2. If you know more than one person will be using the wireless, I'd suggest you break out the Cat 5 cable and hard wire your XBOX/gaming machines.
3. Or if you got the cash, get a commercial wireless access point, one that can handle multiple channels at once.
4. 802.11b is Half Duplex but new wireless standards are coming out and may reduce the performance issues of 802.11b.
